Dear Patty,
Its great to have u in this forum as a senior personal in the field of early learning. I would like to know about how much of EK did ur baby recollect once they grew up? It would also be great to know if the Doman method help in accelerated learning once they went to school? Did they also develop photographic memory as an effect of Doman method? Also is there any suggestions that you would give us on providing early learning opportunities for babies.
Thanks in advance for taking time to reply to our queries.

I also wanted to add that...there is a lot covered in each lesson like music (perfect pitch), cultures of the word, maths, speed reading and a number of other science topics. It follows the flash method and each picture/word is shown for a second or so.

Hi dsahala, We started using tweedlwink since my baby turned 6 months old. We have vol 1-9 and though we don't use it daily we love it. Its a bit random but I guess its got a lot of topics covered. You can try a sample lesson on youtube (just type in tweedlewink and I am sure u will find some sample videos)

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Reading to babies

Could somebody please give me suggestions as in how to read to babies...what I mean is ..I was told that repetition is the key with babies. Should I read say 3 books repeatedly for a week (like 3 books each day and repeat the same three books that week...no other books)? OR should I just randomly read whatever we find. Is there a rule?
I have tried reading the same book repeatedly a week and my baby loves it.....she even knows what's coming next. I am not sure if this is the most effective way though as she's only getting exposed to few words. Please help> Thanks, momtobaby

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: what age/stage for an abucus to be introduced?

I am planning to introduce abacus to our little one when she turns 1. Initially I would just start of showing just single digits on a toy abacus or something. Eventually, depending on how she picks up and her aptiude towards abacus I would progress on to a proper abacus board (maybe around 2 yrs of age ??). Planning to send her to an abacus classroom when she turns 4 (that's min age for admission).Well, these are just my thoughts and aspirations

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Flashcards for young babies

Yeah like 2010BEBES said for some babies too many cards can get overwhelming.....so instead of retiring everyday (if u think that he /she is not seeing enough of the cards to make the CONNECTIONS in the brain) u could even retire every week. Like I mentioned ...since we retire only after a month or so we end up having a lot more cards to go through at each sitting....but my baby loves to see the cards so she ios ready to watch it for how much ever time....she actually cries when I stop showing her the cards.....so it works for us. Again I believe that each baby is different ....we as mothers should prepare a customized programme that best suits our little one. We just took in the essence of Doman method and created our own method ...and as rightly quoted by 2010BEBES ...AS LONG AS THE CARDS ARE SHOWN IN A CHEERFUL WAY AND THAT YOU AND YOUR BABY ENJOYS IT....its no worries

I don't know if I have already posted our method somewhere else in the forum but anyways....my baby is 8 months old now, we started off with flash cards @ abt 4 1/2 months. We really did not follow the doman method...we showed her a lot more cards than doman suggested and we did it only twice a day. I did not ever retire any cards ..I just added. I always felt that the old cards when shown is more like a revision. Howvere, if u see that ur baby is getting bored when he/she sees the old cards just retire them. I haven't had that problem yet so we just keep adding cards and not retiring. The funny this is the other...I just tested her with the seven wonder card set (we haven't shown her that set in abt 1 month now) and she picked up the right cards everytime ...So I guess they don't foget things that easily. However, with the word card ...I have seen that if I havent shown something in a while and ask her to pick up from 2 cards....there are times when he would get it wrong....

Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Re: Multilingual babies

My husband and myself...we both were brought up in a multilingual home. I was a very early speaker...however, my husband spoke late. The funny thing is his mom never spoke her mother tongue with him but he learnt it just by listening to his mom speak the language with his grandma!!! My mom mentioned that most of the times multilingual babies can mix up words from different languages when they form sentences ....but eventually they will sort it out themselves. With our baby ....I am speaking to her in my mother tongue and English. For eg: I will ask her "Would u like to have some milk?" in English and then translate the same thing into my mother tongue. I have been forcing my husband to speak to her in his mother tongue during daddy baby time....but it hardly happens ....but that's ok.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Does DHA Omega 3 really benefit developing babies?

There are several studies done on the effect of Fish oil on children...several of the studies concluded that omega oils are extremely beneficial in increasing the concentration span and also increasing brain power in children. Its very beneficial in calming kids in ADHD even more than medication itself. However, a recent study indicated that high doses of DHA increased the risk of cancer in mice http://www.emaxhealth.com/1275/fish-oil-increases-risk-colitis-colon-cancer-miceOn the contrary, another study proved that DHA can supress colon cancer growth....its sometimes hard to make certain choices. Personally, I have been taking a pharmaceutical grade fish oil from 3 months before I conceived my baby and yeah throughout my pregnancy too. I also give my baby yogurt with omega 3 in it. After reading the recent article ....am kind of confused.
