Give her two books.One to put in her mouth and you manage and hold the one you are reading to her.
Be prepared to swap with her.

I am trawling through Brillkids everyday texting and phoning my daughters about the great stuff I find here.
I don't want to miss anything.

How it jells with me, is that I have always believed in each baby's potential from birth and before.
If I had known this thirty years ago .......
But we know it now and we are acting on it.

One little brill grandkid and one due in July.

Even when my granddaughter was a very little baby I was busy searching for picture books with interesting rhyme and charming witty stories.

I love Margaret Mahey's picture books.

So we ignored the reading age recommendation and held the baby's interest with the poetry of the language and our own delight in the story line.

We find "Down the back of the chair " fun to read.

I live in a rural area with virtually no bookstores.
I had to use another option.
Make books.
We realised that by making our own scrap books with family photos and drawings and magazine cut outs we could appeal to her with any interesting looking/sounding words we fancied.

Just this week I was listening to a lectures online she gave, about how necessary it is to nurture imagination.

About me now as this is my first post.
I am Grandma to a brillkid.

Firstly I want to tell forum members that I am grateful to YBCR.
I have learned so much from seeing the baby learn from the program.

And thanks so much from Forum members too.
I am grateful to my daughter for introducing me to Brillkids.

I make art (sort of storyboards in laminated layers) for my grandchild with tear off velcro characters.
I customise the art to her interests.
I write her picture books too.
I post her something once a week.
I live in Aussie and she is in NZ.
It is my way of contributing, being useful and keeping in touch.

I tell everyone about Brillkids.
