Hello everybody!
I remember a post long time ago about a site where they sell cd's to teach subjects like math, chemestry, geography, etc. I just can't find it. Does anyone know a good place to get this kind of materiales? Has anyone tried them and can give some feedback? I googled it and found a site, but would rather get them from a site that someone recommends.
Thanks in advance!

Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Re: Inexpensive laminating machines?

mom2ross, I think it is definetly worth it. If you live in the States you can buy a laminator at Walmart for under US$30. I think they are good enough and you probably don't need more than that. Regarding supplies, I get the pouches at www.laminator.com they have buy 2 get 1 free and after shopping around it definetely was the best place to get them. It would depend on the shipping cost though. PY decided to get them at Walmart too since she lives in Alaska and the shipping was way too expensive. Hope this helps!

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Will baby signing delay baby speech?

I had heard that too, but we went ahead and taught signing to our baby since she was 5 months. She started signing around 9 months and once she could pronounce the word she dropped the sign. Right now she uses her signs very seldom, when she is around people and is being shy. She would sign thank you, please or sorry instead of the word. It was great to be able to communicate with her when she was little. Definetely if we have another baby, we will be teaching him signing.
I don't think is language dependant. We used to sign and use the word in both English and Spanish.
Hope this helps!

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Time-out Guidelines for Parents

Just my personal experience: My daughter is going to be 18 months in a week and a friend. About two weeks ago we started doing time outs for just one minute. My daughter definitely know what means going to time out. We just tell her twice not to do something, that second time I'll tell her"if you do it again you are going to time-out" and she says "no and that is the end of the story. Sometimes she does it anyways and even though I wish she hadn't so I would have to get up, I always do what I told her I was going to do. So as of now it is working and I love it does as angeles said I wouldn't know what else to do.

Our park has a water fountain (which is off right now) but the holes where the water comes out has different colors. I just keep asking her "where is the yellow circle?" and she goes to it. We do it with all the colors. My point is, try to find something that they can run to, touch and you can celebrate with them.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Math with a 4 month old

Kat25,
We started with math flash cards when our daughter was 4 months old. As you said they can't do problem solving, so just keep teaching you baby he is processing all the information. We never worried about the problem solving part until she was around 7 months old and not even then did it that often.

Products Marketplace / Product Discussions and Reviews / Muzzy Review

When I started searching for materials to teach my dd foreing languages I came accross Muzzy. I checked the reviews here in the forum and they weren't good. I decided to checked out the German Muzzy from the library instead of buying it. At the beggining my dd wasn't to impress with it and I wasn't either. The graphics aren't that great. I have to say that I kept paying attention and I really like the vocabulary that was taught. I tried again later and now my dd loves it. She keeps asking for Muzzy. It is really hard to find good materials in German, so if you are teaching German to your kids I'll definetly reccomend it. Also, if you already have it and you kid didn't like, try once again you may be surprise. Even though it may look like a cartoon it works for me the way they brake it up with vocabulary and also my daughter gets expose to "regular" conversations. Regardin the graphics, yeah they are not that great, but my dd does't seem to care that they are not sharp, she just like the little green moster.
PS. I had to initiate a new topic because the other pne was way to old

Shenli,
Thank you so much for the information. Wow! I didn't know any of this. Memory Magic includes "SillyStories". I tried like two times to do it with my daughter but she was not interested. Now, I'm glad she wasn't since based on your explanation she is way to young for these. K2U

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Do you brush your child's teeth
|

We started cleaning my dd's gums when she was like 3 months old with a little towel and water. When she was around 10 months old westarted brusing her teeth with tooth paste (no fluoride). At the beginning she was fine with it because she loves it when I brush my teeth, but now it is a battle. We sign, do games and some times she let's us do the bottoms in good spirits, but then she starts fuzzing an daddy just holds her arms and I brush her teeth. We are waiting for the time when she will be ok with it.
