Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: face washing and wiping the nose

My 15yo usually hates getting his nose wiped. But if I put the tissue box in front of him and let him put it up to his nose and pretend to blow, he'll let me wipe. He likes to think he is a big boy and can do it himself. Now I don't know if he would have done that at 7mo of age.
Getting his diaper changed is a nightmare too!
Poor sick babies. Offer lots of fluids, run a humidifier at night. If they'll let you, use saline spray in the nose to clear the airways.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / LR vs LM

Not sure if this is the right board for this, but.....
I have just started to do Doman reading program with my kids (4yo and 15 mo.) And I just recently found this site : )
But I am interested in LR and LM. I had been thinking about started Doman math too, but from the sounds of it, my 15mo old will probably not be interested in watching dots. My 4yo probably won't be too interested, either. But with LM I can change icons to keep the 15mo old's interest.
I will probably get one program, since I am trying to keep costs down. Which would be more beneficial, LR or LM, since we are already doing a reading program. And would LM even benefit my 4yo at all?

BEYOND EARLY LEARNING (for older years) / General Discussions - After Early Learning / Re: Teaching a 4 year old

I just started w/ my 4yo this week (turned 4 2 weeks ago.) We are using the Doman method from his book. She has been in preschool and can read and write some basic things, like her name. We have been doing exercises a few days a week with starfall, and they are slowly working on phonics at preschool.
So we have been doing the flashcards. She has been loving it. She insists that she says the word before I do. She knew almost all of the words after the first session seeing the words. She does get confused at times with words starting with the same letter.
So I'd say be sure to use words that he is interested in. Getting to the couplet/sentence/games stage will keep the older child interested for longer. My daughter loves starfall, and interactive computer learning, so maybe the LR would work well (haven't tried it myself.)
