EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / 1. language - How strong after introducing 2. language

Hello,
Maybe the title is a bit confusing. My question is: do you think, that the child's development in the first language learnd goes a bit slower / backwards, after introducing a 2. or 3. language?
My little daughter is 2 years old and speaks very good hungarian already. I'm just afraid, she will lose a bit of that, after learning now german, and later english and french. Hungarian is a really difficult language and I know many hungarian people living here in Germany, who don't speak so well after a few years.
Thanks for your answers about your experiences.

Hi Tracy,
Thank you very much for your answer. Now after reading a few days in the internet, I have made up a language learning-plan for my daughter. Please share your thoughts, could this plan work / is it not too much?
Starting today I will speak at least 40 minutes a day german with my daugther + read to her at least 15 minutes a few books (the rest of time hungarian speaking + reading). Besides I will translate the curriculum 1+2 in german, so I can do this with her too.
Starting in 4-5 months (depending, how it works out with german) I will also introduce reading at least 15 minutes a day in english and french (I speak both languages).
So, do you think it will be too much for her? Will she be confused or is it ok? Can she learn english and french just from reading a quarter of an hour every day or is this naiv thinking?
Please share your thoughts!
Best regards

Hello,
We speak hungarian at home and my daughter speaks good now, that she turned 2 years old. I can speak also german very well, but didn't want to speak german to her, until she speaks good her mother tongue. We live in Germany, so she will be speaking better german with time then hungarian. So it was very important to us, that she speaks hungarian well, before introducing the second language.
But now, I have the idea, to read to her german books, one or two per day. And when reading in german, I will also explain the pictures in german, so she will get an idea of the language after a few months I suppose. I still don't want so speak german to her at home, exept when reading.
My question: Do you think, that this is a good idea or will she be confused? At first, she will not understand so much...
My second question: Should I also introduce english (with reading a book per day) at the same time or just wait?
Thank you very much for your help!!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Where to begin after a pause?

Hi,
I started LM curriculum with my daugher about a year ago. We made it until the 115th day of the 12-month-curriculum, but then she didn't like it anymore and we made a longer pause / 4 or 5 month.
Yesterday I showed her again and she seems to like it again (now she is 22 months old). Is is already too late to show her LM, what do you think? And if not, where should we start now, from the 1st day or continue at the 116th day?
Thanks & have a nice sunday!

Hi, Thank you for your answers! Actually, I have no idea, why my daughter doesn't want to read and in the forum I didn't find other parents, who are doing LR for such a long time without result... ok, that is not right: little daughter benefited very very much from LR, she loves it, we love to do it together, she learned much vocabulary, and so on. @akalori: Yes, she speaks. I would say, very good for her age, she speaks with 21 months in full sentences, with a good grammar, it is really superb. So she could say every word we learned in the curriculum. Yesterday I "tested" her a little bit (I almost never tested her, but waited for her to show, she knows...). There was a word on the screan that said bird (madár in hungarian). I began reading the word to her and hoped, she will sound it out, I began: "maaa" and she finished "mama!". But it just wasn't the right word Hm.. I read the paper of Dad Dude and I think I will start with phonics, maybe, so "she will get the clue"! @hypatia: what means EK? Thanks all for your input! More input will be appreciated!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / And what comes next?

Hi,
We began the LR Curriculum with my daughter, when she was 11 months old. Now she just turned 21 and we've finished the 12 month-curriculum yesterday.
Actually she didn't show yet, that she can read. I do the program in hungarian (have translated it), but left out the "Pattern Phonics" part, because I didn't know, where to get such phonics-words and I didn't have the time to do it myself. Do you think, it is possible, that she can't read yet because of this?
I don't know, what to do next.... what would you suggest? Is there somebody, who did the whole curriculum?

Hi
I began the LR curriculum with my daugther, when she was 11 months old, now she got 18 months yesterday.
We do it consistently, 1 session a day, sometimes also 2. We had only a pause of 10 days, when we were in holidays. She likes the curriculum very much!
BUT: she can't read yet. When I sometimes show her a word (I test her very rarely), she says anything, but not the right word. And then she looks at me, as if to ask, if it is ok? Or when I show her 2 words and tell her to pick the right one, sometimes she does sometimes it is the wrong one... it's like, she had no idea.
Sometimes I'm losing a bit my motivation...

She doesn't have the grasp reflex anymore and she also can crawl (almost walks). I really don't know, where to start with her. What would you suggest??

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / ABOUT PLAYING / TALKING

Hi,
Maybe this is a weird question, but how much do you play and talk to your children? I'm a working mommy and when I am home with my daughter, I always have the feeling, that I have to play with her. Or talk to her all the time, so that she hears the sound of language. Sometimes, when I let her play by herself, it gives me a bad feeling, that I'm not doing enough for her... does someone understand that?
How much do you play with your children?`And how much and when do you talk to them?

Hi,
I purchased the LR with the 12-month-curriculum. We are doing the first session after wake-up and the second session before taking a bath in the evening. Now, I would like to do even more reading with my daughter. How many words would you suggest? And how should I do it? How many words at a time?
Thanks in advance for your help!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / I don't know, HOW to teach her the second language

Hi all!
Me and my husband are both hungarian native speakers and we live in Switzerland, and everybody around us speaks german. I've been living here for almost 30 years, so I speak german as good as hungarian.
So... we would like to speak hungarian at home with our daughter and I don't want to speak with her german, because I'm afraid, she then won't speak any hungarian with me anymore, because that is the more difficult language. I also see this in two other families. But it would be great, if I could teach her german with Little Reader. Would it be a good idea or would she get really confused? 1 week ago I begun the 12-months-curriculum with her in hungarian (I translated a part already and am still translating).
I would like her to understand (and maybe speak) german good and understand and speak hungarian at the moment at home. How can I do this??

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Book for an 5 months old?

Hi,
What kind of books do you read to your little child, 4-5 months old? I'm not sure, what she understands... and so I don't know what to read to her. But when I take a book with many pictures and start to read (she sits in my lap), she always looks at the pictures and listens very attentively.
