To get him sleep at night, you can try giving him yogurts in evening before dinner. Or you can also give yogurt after dinner....
For the breakfast, as waterdreamer said a breakfast shake is good. I make a multigrain porridge, mix with hot milk and give my son. It keeps a full stomach till 11.
I know how difficult it is for you if your child wakes up at 3am! and wont sleep after that!!
Do let us know once your problem solves...

My baby started crawl-climb stairs when he was 10 mo. Now he can climb 2 floors at a stretch, but I prevent him after that...
Squealy toys, color sorting games, peek a boo, and a lot of walking outdoors/indoors - is what my son enjoys. He still doesnt like electronic toys, and had broken almost all toys he had...
@ zaku, karmas to you for your suggestion...

Fantastic ideas Rizoo. Do you have more for hot climates for one year olds? My son is going to enjoy the below one, as he is already a nature lover.. Nature Bracelet Materials * Masking tape * Scissors Directions 1. Before going outdoors with your child, wrap a piece of masking tape to his wrist, sticky side up. 2. As you explore, help him attach colorful leaves, flowers, and other interesting discoveries to his bracelet. 3. When done, use scissors to snip off the nature bracelet. 4. Display on a bulletin board, shelf, or wall. after that you can talk with your child about the things in bracelet http://fun.familyeducation.com/toddler/outdoor-games/36932.html?detoured=1

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: boys 'slower' than girls?
|
on: May 17, 2010, 07:13:51 AM

I just posted about this elsewhere, but I'll mention it here...
My boy is enjoying Little Reader and after maybe 5 or 6 viewings of Leap Frog's Letter Factory and with the purchase of Sassy's foam bath letters and numbers, he very quickly memorized every letter and its respective sound - this was actually several weeks ago already (maybe 6 weeks ago or more).
He is just obsessed with his letters and numbers - daily he organizes and arranges his letters, shows me various letters so that I can sing to him about them, etc.
I think the key for us was gifting him large foam letters he could manipulate with his hands. He can recognize the letter no matter how it is arranged (upside down, backwards, straight up, etc.)
In general, I do believe girls begin talking (and maybe reading) before boys because their brains are just wired up a bit different, but my boy is progressing well and talking with very clear pronunciation and with two-word phrases at 16/17 months, so it's possible!
Maybe get your boy some manipulatives - it could speed him up a bit. Or you could just let him take his time - I'm sure he'll be reading soon enough - the key is having eager parents who aren't waiting for the school system to do everything for them, and you clearly have that!!!

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: Preparing for Delivery : Which Baby Stuff should I bring to the hospital?

I would bring a fully stocked diaper bag (see list below)
Diaper bag (for in-town trip, no need to overpack):
5 diapers 3 disposable changing pads (the same kind the pediatrician office uses - they are actually adult diapers but they are great, especially on these yucky public changing table - you can just throw it out instead of having to put it back in your bag) 1 change of clothes (onesie and socks in the right size - remember to keep up) 1 swaddling blanket (many uses); one non-disposable diaper as burp clothes 1 well -stuffed travel wipe container (a poopy diaper can be a "10-wiper", so keep that in mind) 1 meal (I used the 2 oz Enfamil nursettes - they make nipples for them- take 2 nipples) 1 clean binkie (if you use them, we didn't) 1 roll of diaper bags to dispose or carry when there are no other options (they are like dog poopie bags) 2 empty ziplock bag
You do not need imo medications of any kind (unless you know your baby needs it at the time). In the continental US, most people are never too far from a pharmacy! or bibs at first (you can use a wipe)
+ a blanket (stroller type) for the baby (it is cold in the hospital at night - you can put it safely on the lower half of the body on a swaddled baby). Newborns often have trouble regulating temperatures on the cold side.
+ 2 onesies + 2 pairs of socks + 1 beanie: this is only for the way home (except the socks maybe). Hospital provides tee shirts and beanies usually.... trust me, you will have plenty of occasions to do laundry later. Also, the baby is examined often by the docs, so even a onesie can be in the way
+ Baby nail files: absolutely essential. Babies are born with longer nails and I was too chicken to cut them but the files work great. I didn't like the idea of mitten (one more thing to wash or lose), and we never needed them.
Other: hospital will provide formula if you don't breast feed, including enough of these great nursettes for the way back and beyond.
Hope this heps!
WOW @ Rivka.. that is a perfect checklist... My hospital gave me a kit which had most of things necessary for delivery..including dress, cap for new born...

Dear KL, and Brillkids Team, My son is one year old now. We started using LM from 4.5months. Right from day one he was so attentive and LM soon became his favorite. I wish to tell you all how much he loves LR and LM. My machine crashed and I had to reinstall the LM. When it didnt work, he got so furious that he broke my keyboard - because he couldnt get to see LM. Then I requested KL and found the problem and he solved it. And my son is back with his LM and is so happy. When he sees LM or LR he wont see any where. The whole time he is so attentive and smiling. LM and LR and the forum screen too had become his favorites. and LM his best friend. I know that children should be very happy while getting trained in doman or shichida or tweedlewink things. So normally I prepare him to this before showing him LR or LM screens. But sometimes when he cries or adamant, to stop him I show him LR or LM. He quits crying instantly and keeps smiling. At this time I dont use anyother softwares or dvds except LM for Math. It is so easy convenient and soooo good. My son can do additions, subtractions, and multiplications. He is just one year ....Kudos to KL team. My heartfelt thanks to Brillkids.
