46  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Tweedlewinks preschool guide on: February 20, 2013, 04:33:16 AM
I haven't had the chance to read this yet but I wanted to share with everyone here.
http://www.rightbrainkids.com/_new/news_d.php?id=216#.USRQc3y9KK1

I also noticed Right Brain Kids is now offering a phonics program separate to tweedlewinks if anyone is interested in teaching phonics with a right brain approach.

47  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Newbie confused on how to use YBCR, Doman & Little Reader??? on: February 17, 2013, 06:53:23 AM
Hi Tara,
Welcome to BrillKids  smile
When I started early learning I was confused and overwhelmed but reading through the previous posts on this forum  I found my way as you will find your way.  I didn't start early learning with my son until he was about six months old.

I started with a program called Monki See Monki Do and BrillKids.  I let my son guide our schedule and as he became accustomed to the lessons we fell into a routine.  Of course if he ever showed any sign of resistance I immediately stopped the lesson and waited until he was in a receptive mood.  I would always show a lot of enthusiasm and excitement before, during and when talking about his lessons.  For example if he was having fun swinging I would joyfully yell yeah BrillKid math lessons are so much fun.  Then when it was time to watch the math lessons he would associate it with a time of fun.

My goals for the day in the beginning with these two programs was to show him the tangible flashcards at least 3 times throughout the day.  It was rare that would happen 3 days in a row.  I would strap him in his carseat and let him watch the video while I was taking a shower with the door open so I could see him.  To this day he loves Mommy's shower time because it is his time to watch an early learning DVD of his choice.  The BrillKid lessons were so quick and enjoyable I was almost always able to show him both sessions of each lesson everyday in English, Mandarin and Math.  Of course there were days we were busy with other activities or one of us weren't feeling up to it.  Don't feel like your child is missing out if a day is missed because when you do start back up they will enjoy it even more.

Little Reader is just like you said a multimedia version of the Doman method but in addition to that it has other sections such as phonics, simple sentences, short stories, games and a multisensory section that is great for teaching vocabulary.  Not to mention the thousands of files on different subjects available to be imported into your library created by forum members.  You can also create and edit files to personalize them.

I would read to him at least an hour each day and now we read to each other at least two hours each day.

As he got older I started adding other right brain programs YBCR English and Spanish, YcCD, Tweedlewinks, Wink to Learn Spanish and Mandarin, The Gentle Revolution Picture Dictionary Spanish and English.  And of course Little Musician!  I know it seems like a lot but the lessons are quick.  Not to mention the endless list of early learning DVDs.

Have you had the chance to download the trial version of Little Reader?  The recommended age to begin the BrillKid programs is 4 months.

We look forward to hearing about your early learning journey.

Jothi,

These videos are amazing  smile

Thank you so much for taking the time to post them here.  Looking forward to more updates.  I have had the program for over a year now and plan to start this summer.

We are also using LR and LM to teach Chinese, science concepts, encyclopedic knowledge, poetry, manners, Spanish...etc.  there are a couple Hindi files with audio  smile I have created some files to teach him the concepts and terminology that goes with my father's company.  Also some short stories about his adventures he loves seeing pics of himself and friends.

I will work on my end to see how I can import the Hindi characters into the LR files.
50  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Nursery Rhymes in Hindi??? on: February 15, 2013, 01:46:07 PM
If you type Hindi nursery rhyme in the YouTube search bar you will come across many.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IeAx0ecRXrY

When I post YouTube links on the iPad they don't always work for some reason.  A channel my son is enjoying is called MakeMeGeniusHindi http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B18h4a-rCc0&feature=plpp

They aren't nursery rhymes but as you will soon come to find out these are the type of videos us EL parents like

Hi Shutka,

Welcome to BrillKids  smile
The recommended age to begin these programs is 4 months.  But it is completely up to you to decide when the time is right.  Have you downloaded the infant stimulation cards yet?  If not you can find the PDFs here
http://www.brillbaby.com/free-download/infant-stimulation-cards.php

I am also having my parents teach my son Hindi but have not created any files for it yet.  Maybe we can collaborate on that and get twice as many done.  smile

We look forward to hearing about your early learning journey.

52  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Math factor dots on: February 15, 2013, 07:53:22 AM
Thanks Skylark  smile  I knew there was a reason I hadn't submitted the help ticket yet.
The You Can Count on Monster book came in and it is very colorful and clear to understand.  Will definitely be a book to keep around for many years.
I also came across these factor triangles from the lakeshore learning website.  Looks like something that can easily be made at home but when you are short on time... tongue

53  Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello Everyone! on: February 13, 2013, 08:26:14 PM
Hi MCane,

I don't speak Spanish or Chinese but with the BrillKid programs my little one already has a good foundation with them.  There are a lot of files that have audio in the library.  I am able to show spanish lessons daily with them.  but I am not sure that you can import them on a trial version of the program.  I also plan to send my son to an immersion school setting but in the meantime plan on having tutors and just found a class Hola Baby in my area.

You are so lucky to have a friend who speaks the language to help you out.  The individuals who will be tutoring my son are the ones I plan on getting help from.   It is also very easy to edit or create Little reader files and if your friend has some time they could record the audio for you.

Have you searched through the forum section about teaching your child a foreign language or product reviews and discussions.  You will find many methods of teaching with examples and experiences.  You will also find many other resources that have been effective in teaching languages.  The BrillKid coupon store also offers discount coupons to Boca Beth's products.  You can purchase the coupons with your loyalty points.  My son really enjoys learning languages through music.
54  Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello Everyone! on: February 13, 2013, 04:36:02 PM
Hi MCane and welcome to BrillKids  smile
Have you downloaded the free trial to show your children the program?
There are some PDFs that you can download for more details on how to use this program along with background info on this teaching method.  Www.brillbaby.com

My son learned how to read words with this program before he had a chance to learn how to say them naturally.  He is also learning Spanish with some of the many lessons files that are available to be imported into your program from the Little Reader Library.  We are expecting a Spanish version to be released in the near future.

Now is a great time to commit with a 10% off coupon for Valentines Day.  I know you will not be disappointed with the results.

57  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: We Can Do by Moshe Kai with guest Robert Levy discussing Saxon Math. on: February 12, 2013, 02:27:09 AM
Bob,

I have a cousin who is a teacher in the public school system and she is always raving about how the school is going paperless.  I am impressed with the capabilities of technology and do think our children should learn how to use them but I was shocked nothing beats a book with a highlighter.  I simply can't fathom staring at a screen hours and hours while expecting your brain to learn and understand the info without getting a headache.  Now hearing that the subject matter is questionable makes me cringe thinking about all the young minds that will never be given the chance to reach their full potential.  They are robbing the world of its future.

I taught my son with a set of geometric solids purchased from a local teaching store but you can find them on amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004E2IH6Y/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

This is a link to the set we used for the light table.  We also fill them up to learn about volume.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0034IX85O/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i02

The DVD I would recommend is by Peter Weatherall who is quite popular on this forum
http://kidsinglish.com/newspeak/video_clips/fantastikos-math-wmvs/fant-math.htm

Here is a quick clip of my son identifying the geometric shapes at 29 months
