EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Encyclopedic Knowledge / Re: Formulas for Encyclopedic Knowledge

Yay! I'm glad there is some interest. I think the two options would be 1) to rotate which division of knowledge we do each time (or after we finish a specific group, some groups like presidents might take more than one week) or 2) to each adopt one division of knowledge to do a set of cards on each week I am fine w/either, however personally I think rotating might be better as some of the groups (i.e. Art) seem more time consuming than others (i.e. biology) and I don't want anyone to get burnt out. Right now I am working on completing sets for each of the 50 states I'd like to start w/ geography. So the divisions are: Mathematics Art Geography Literature Language Science Biology Music Human Physiology History If people want to choose one division for the next week for which they will be responsible for making either 5 or 10 cards(What do you guys think is reasonable? since you only do 5 encyclopedic cards at a time 5 is probably good to start I guess.) Then you can just post your division and chosen category. I'll post this whole thing under a new topic so we can keep it neat. Mathematics Art Geography -States of the United States of America (Linzy) Literature Language Science Biology Music Human Physiology History Here is the link to the new thread: http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-encyclopedic-knowledge/encyclopedic-knowledge-weekly-collaboration-group/new/#new

Terrific tamales taste tremendously toasty to trendy teenagers taking turns timing tormented toads tumbling towards two tumultuous tigers.
This totally tames the tastebuds that tremble, thinking, three ticklish turkeys throw trick trucks till tulips tango timidly truly thankful.
There, thieves took Timothy's turquoise toupee trousers that totaled thousands to Texas taxies. Thankfully, Timothy told teletubbies to topple toffee that turned tender trampolines tacky, twisted them terribly till they threatened thoughtfully to tell

Everyday I go outside And stride along the path with pride
And stop to look, should something catch my eye, I don't want to let the wonder pass me by!
i cant walk good, i badly feel shy People might look and wonder why
The cars zoom by, the cool wind blows I walk regardless of rain or snows
And when it snows upon my head My hair gets wet and I forget........
Oh, shoot! I left the oven on! Now I wish I hadn't gone!
I race back home as fast as I can and find a black turkey on fire in the pan.
I turn around to start again

Once upon a time, Santa Clause wandered into my garden and dropped his cookies on blue carpet that my sacks of beads fell onto. I picked pickled parsnips from Papa's popular place, then danced deliriously for my baby panda and he got slept under the Christmas tree.
Whenever reindeer passes through the lovely supermarket OVERFLOWING with laughter throw tomatoes at grandpa giggling away.
We all stopped when suddenly George shouted, "HO HO HO! Oh, goodness!" Apparently the facetious elves played jolly upon finishing one cookie!
Hurray! Rudolph pranced joyfully while Santa drank eggnog and sang a song loudly while wrapping presents quickly. Everything suddenly vanished into clouds that disappeared rapidly into dust.

Karma to you for reminding me about ISR. That is a really good program too. I know people who have used it successfully. It mainly teaches babies to float if they fall into the water and some also teach attempting to get to the side of the pool by swimming a few strokes then flipping over and floating then swimming etc... It does not go into swimming as much as the doman book, but it does get you over the initial hump of getting baby comfortable in water and teaching the floating on their back. Which in my experience almost all babies hate initially and I really could have used someone to help me with that portion as I didn't start until my son was 1 and had an intense dislike for back floating.

I have not heard of this program. Although I will have to look into it. The one I was thinking about using for my son was Piano for Preschoolers, recommended also staring at age 3. It starts initially with the regular notes on the staff in color, with the color matching a strip which goes behind the keys, and it transitions to the notes no longer being colored. They have a very good website ( http://www.pianoforpreschoolers.com/songslessons.html?gclid=CJvNwJOSspcCFQJHxwod4RTbjQ) and their program is only $39.99. It includes a 17-song music book, a 17-track CD, a 19-lesson parent/teacher handbook, and two keyboard color strip guides (one for full-sized piano, and one for mini-key keyboard). They also have many additional songbooks and by the time you are done with the course the child should be able to pick up a beginner level song book from any music store and play. I thought you might want to look into this program if you are reluctant to make a large monetary commitment by purchasing 4 books all at once.

For those of you who have started to teach your child to write how are you doing so? I have had Blaise do some dot to dot type activites, but I was wondering what methods others have used.
