Hi allthatiam,
Welcome to the Forum and it is wonderful to have your here!
Yes, of course there is a search function, you can look at the menu at the top of the page and you will see the last button, called "search". I also attached the screen shot here, so you can find it easier!
Hope it helps. Happy searching!

EARLY LEARNING / Parents of Children with Special Needs / Re: When to start?

Congratulations with your new daughter! I would try and look at the reaction. generally I was doing a lot of reading, singing, listening to the classical music, sensory stimulation, and visual stimulation with black/white/red flash cads at that age. Then at about 3 months we started with Little Reader, not with the whole lesson, but a part of it, with frequent breaks, then about two weeks later I added Little math, then Little Musician, and then second language. We kept every single lesson very short and fast going, with lots of cuddles and praise.
You do not need to do the way I did it, I am just sharing what worked for me. You can start with Little Reader lessons only and do it a few times a day shorter lessons, keeping it fun and inspiring and stopping before she wants to stop.
We are always here to answer any question, there is always one of the parents in this community that probably went through some similar situations. So feel free to come back often and ask questions.
Looking forward to hear from you!

That is so exciting, momagain! On a large scale, you are among a very few who starting that early!! And your new son is certainly blessed to have such incredible parents! Overall I looked at our EL journey as a way of connecting with my children, responding to their needs and treating them as little individuals they are I have not even though about it much as a learning, or scheduling, but as a way of life, constantly talking to them and exposing them to new experiences. Wow, you are giving an amazing gift to your new son!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Play sand???

I have no idea to be honest. But we use regular sand from an ocean beach ( the rough kind). From what I know the rougher it is, the safer it is. You do not want to have it very fine for the danger of inhalation. I also spray our send lightly from the water sprayer before play, so it is a little dump, that way it is heavier, funner to play with and there is no danger of dust. We also add some cinnamon to our sand box, which keeps all the bugs away and has a disinfectant effect ( plus it has a pleasant smell ) Hope it helps somewhat

Momagain, congratulations! It depends what you mean by "starting" We started listening to Music, narrating things, poetry and reading before birth. When my kids were born we would continue those, adding using the potty from day 1, narrating everything we were doing or observing and tactile stimulation ( soft, hard, cold, warm, etc). We would do some elements of Doman Physically Superb Program at that time as well. As far as Little Reader, Little Math, LMs and languages, we started at around 4 months. We have not added any other educational videos till about 6 or 7 months, and very little for that. We also did a lot of visual stimulation at about 4-8 weeks Hope these ideas help That is what I've been doing with 3 of my children.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Do you allow your kids to watch TV

We do not own TV, and never watched TV around the kids. Our kids are 5.5, 4 and 1.5, and they come up with so many fun games and activities to do, they love reading books ( literally for hours and hours) and are very physically active.
We show them short educational videos each day, but it does not take that much time, and we only show videos with high educational content, not for the sake of watching but rather as an aid in learning.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Music / Re: Which MIDI keyboards or USB pianos will work with Little Musician?
|
on: June 25, 2014, 05:22:22 AM

Yes, Tamsyn is correct, Little Musician is meant to be Music Literacy, Ear/Vocal/Rhythm Training and Music Appreciation Program. It was not made for learning piano. Since you can start with the program years before child will be able to start with piano training, it provides invaluable tool, and can lay a good solid foundation before any instrument instruction. For example, piano is not an instrument of choice at this point of time in our family, but through using Little Musician we gave quite good musical foundation to our children, our oldest has confirmed perfect pitch, all of our 3 children quite familiar with composers and classical music and can name many of classical compositions by hearing a few moments of them. They clearly have appreciation for and like classical music, which in many ways due to being familiar with it through Little Musician and Themes to Remember Programs. I would say, Little Musician is unique in that way. And I like the fact that it is not tied just to the piano ( as most of the programs out there), but in each lesson children learn their notes, played by different instruments, learn about composers, instruments, styles, periods. They introduced to rhythm, musical notation, solfegio. It is a perfect fit for our family, and we are using it already with the 3rd kid
