Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / How to handle a bully?

Today hubby brought my 32 month old daughter to playground. There is this little girl who went with her grandma and maid. This girl is about 3 to 4 yo. She followed my daughter all around the playground. Everything my daughter touches, or want to play, she block my daughter. Block the slide, refuse to let my daughter play. Everything my daughter touches or want to play, she used her body to block the toy so my daughter can't touch it. The grandma just ask her not to do that, but can't seems to control her at all. My daughter pointed at the swing, told my hubby that she wants to play swing, when the bully saw my daughter point at the swing, she quickly ran to the swing.. My hubby just held my daughter's hand and brought her somewhere else. I dont want my daughter to be too timid, running from bullies, if she tell the adults , in this case, the grandma and maid can't do much.. Neither do I want her to fight .. What to do?

I am considering ballet for my 34 month old daughter. There are some toddler courses for 2 yo to start on some sort of toddler ballet lesson. When is the best age to start ballet? My height is above average and I grow up a head or half a head taller than my peers, and I have a tendency to hunch back. Even now. My daughter's height is also above average, I want to ascertain that she will have good posture. Probably will let her learn Wing Tsun or some chinese kung fu when she is older, that will also help with good posture, any other activities to do or exercise for good posture? Just want to share and have some opinion on this.

I started when my daughter was 2. I have to put in effort to make her watch TW. the part for visual tracking, for eye exercise, follow the flower,, i have to make my own sound effect.. and let her watch and she will make the sound effect and watch when the flower goes here and there. sometimes, bounce her on my laps as they show the "flash cards" and all and the eye stimulation , when they show primary colour, i asked her, what colour, she will go, black, white, black . i have to make it interesting, it is not like Leapfrog or Whistlefritz or YCCR, where the kids really like to watch. Basically it is flash cards in dvd format.

I have TW and have brought my daughter to attend Shichida and I find that, a lot of materials presented in Shichida is similar to TW. So, if you have read Shichida books and believe in right brain education, that TW is worth it. They have compiled the materials and all , just have to show it once a day. But then as for the results, it is not very obvious like any other dvds like Leapfrog or YCCR where I can see her sounding out the phonics perfectly or singing Little Bo Peep. With TW, sometimes, I see things like, she look at a picture of an elephant and says, elephant, Nigeria. She recalled the part about culture, where they say, in Nigeria, you can find things like elephant, that sort of things. Sorry, I have not used TW long enough to see the obvious results. About TW, I used it initially with my old tv, and the the screen kept blinking. Background of the pictures of TW is white , so the refresh rate is slower and with old tv, it blinks so much, I was worried that it will affect my daughter's eyesight.

I did say something like I've seen kids playing usually keyboard at the age of 2 or 3. One of the lady said, her friend who is piano teacher suggested age 5 at least. Anyway, really dont want to start a debate in office about early learning music versus traditional method at age 5. The good news is. My mil who initially said, letting my daughter performed in a concert was a waste of money, finally agreed with me that the concert was good for her. My daughter asked to play the violin for her yesterday. MIL said, it has helped my daughter develop interest in violin.

It so happened that I was sharing the video and photos of my daughter's first violin performance with one colleague and the others who passed by quickly come and look. People were quick to comment that violin and piano learning should really start at the age of 5 , any earlier, the kids will learn the wrong finger placing , wrong posture and all. I just kept quiet. Then they want to know where she goes for violin lesson, how much it costs and all.. Not that I don't want to share the information, but they are not curious for info to send kids to learn. Just want to know and comment.. negative , unwanted comments. What to do?

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: socks to Japan

there is a foreigner in japan that is trying to do something for the people there. and since he is 'on his own'.. it is not an organisation like red cross or something. due to logistics , he can only send socks to the people there. care letters would be good. donating $$ to red cross is good, but that and sending socks do not have to be mutually exclusive. i thought it would good, since we are part of the 'early learning ' community to encourage young kids to learn to give at an early age. young kids can choose the socks and guide them to write letters to the people in japan. sure, they can donate part of their pocket $$ too..
