Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Baby sleeping - Does your baby still cry at night?

I don't think my post will help you marimari but just want to say what I think. My 21 months old was always a bad sleeper. Even now she gets up 1-2 during the night. Her nap is 1.5 hours and is usually from 12.30 to 2 p.m. It's always a problem to put her to sleep. There was a month when she slept from 9 to 6 without getting up. I was following one of those sleeping techniqes for almost 2 months and was very happy it finally paid for itself. Then all over sudden one night things went back to "normal": fussing, crying before falling asleep, getting up crying at night. Nothing changed in her routin by the way. Me and my brother were bad sleepers too. Even now I am a very light sleeper and it is hard for me to fall asleep. So for me the answer is in genetics. You can do some improvements but you cannot change something that is written in your genes. It's my point of view. Oh, she swims in the pool almost every evening for 30-45 minutes with no floaters. I would think that is enough to wear her out by her sleep time. But not with our luck, I guess.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: YBCR vs LM/LR please?

sveta09: Make sure you read about the YCCR before buying. I'm not sure, but it seems as if it's a beginner course like the YBCR, but it's for a child who has not been exposed to the YBCR or other learning programs. I'm not sure if it's a natural progression, or just a YBCR for older children.
I checked their website and it says Your Child Can Read! 5 DVD Set Graduate Your Baby to the next level! Your Child Can Read is the next step in your child’s advanced language development. • Combines the best of phonics and whole word learning methods • Teaches children to read with comprehension using word, image and phonetic sound association. • And the posters from from another topic say that they had YBCR and now using YCCR. I think we'll be fine. Thx for the heads up terrahmother. Will read more on this topic just to make sure it is good for us.

I have another problem and don´t know how to solve it. I enter the forum using directly this address: http://forum.parentweb.com/However when I post here it counts as a post at brillkids I´ve been testing all the possibilities but without result. Any idea? Looks like I have the same problem. I already posted twice here (this is my third most), but it was still showing 0 for me. And I saw some other posters with 0 posts.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: 3 day method of potty training
|

My DD was potty trained by 20 months. So I don't know how it goes with older babies. 3-day training sounds Ok but every child is different so it may take longer than that. We tried to let her go with buttom naked but ended up putting panties on to avoid "poopy" accidents on the floor and I didn't want her sitting buttom naked on the cold tiles. I was keeping track of the time when she peed or pooped, it helped a lot. I had it marked on the paper, she never was on a schedule as some kids are (potty training goes much easier when the child poops and pees at approximately the same time every day, may be you'll be lucky this way) but at least I knew how much time had passed since her last potty. And you need to watch for liquid intake as the child will have to go more often. We have only one potty but I used to put it in the place where she spent most of the time or in the middle of the house so that if she needs to go quick it was right there. When she was done with her potty training I moved the potty into her bathroom. Oh, if we are going somewhere, our potty goes with us, as she is scared to go on a toilet seat. Hope this helps someone.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Ella at 22 months reading English and Chinese books

Hi, Sveta Wow, it seems like you've done a great job with your daughter! I have russian words flash cards that I made for him. We were done with them a year ago, We've been going through Russian sentences and stories. I started LR and LM after 4 month of focufing on Russian. We've been doing LR for one year now, reading books along. He loves LR and I'm sure he knows quite a bit. I haven't really try on testing his reading skill at the same time he doesn't volunteer to read to me. He doesn't like me asking him to read. So I'm still waiting and hoping that he'll surprize me one day. All the best! PS: this website has a lot of Russian, English and Spanish downloads: http://www.childandme.com/Laralinn, you can't even imagine how much time you are saving me!!! This link is awesome. Just copy and use. Oh, boy. I have so many reading to do now. You, girls/boys, are amazing here. I'm very happy to find this website. Sorry to hear that your baby doesn't want to read right now, I'm sure he will surprise you one day. Don't give up, Laralinn. You've done so much, just keep going and don't lose your hope. Good luck.

sveta, I would definitely encourage you to teach your baby to read in Russian. I can't tell you how rewarding it is to see my daughter learn to read in my native language, especially since there are a lot of Chinese poetry, literature, and even martial arts fiction books (think: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) that I really enjoyed reading and would like to eventually share with her when she grows up! biggrin
Thank you, aangeles. I never thought that far ahead but you made a very good point. And the link you gave is very helpful. Gonna take a closer look at this website. Sorry, cannot give you any Karma yet, need to wait untill I have more posts. Laralinn, do you talk Russian to him or use programmes like LR alone? My baby is 21 months, I did some of free LR that the members of this forum created (untill our free trial expired). It was enough for her to recognize some Russian words from the screen ( I talk Russian to her since the day she was born, so those words were familiar to her). She is doing well with English reading too. It is hard for her to sit still and actually read a book, but she can read one sentence here and one sentence there. I'm very inspired by Ella and her mom and tomorrow gonna start my Power Point in Russian.

Sorry to say but she did not build phonemic awareness after doing the YBCR. Very rare she will read something that looks familiar the right way. Like the word "print" she read as the word "point" the other day. We keep working on it, so I'm pretty sure she will get it eventually because she finds the words that looks like the words she can read. We finished the course in 4 months and I think it is not enough for building this skill. I still put it up from time to time and she still loves the books and the flash cards from YBCR. Her vocabulary is growing, she memorizes the words she sees very quick. I don't regret we got it. Thank you for the link, LMsMum, I will check it out later.
