when i was pregnant i too drank some pineapple juice when i was overdo. i can't say for sure if it helped, my baby came exactly one week later than anticipated, but it didn't hurt and is a much nicer way to induce labor than are available out there. good luck.

BrillKids Software / Little Math - General Discussion / Re: No Interest in Little Math

thanks for the great suggestions. it's nice to know that my daughter is not the only one struggling to keep an interest on little math. the fact that it is on a computer is both a blessing and a curse. it makes showing things so much more easier, at the same time as allowing children to have more access to more exciting things at their fingertips. my daughter would say "one, two" but as soon as i'd sit her down, she would move the mouse and sing "twinkle twinkle" implying wanting to watch youtube songs. in any case, any suggestions are welcome. thanks once more, liza

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: hebrew for kids

there's also little pim in hebrew. very nice indeed. i would highly recommend it. plus, it was available here at my library, so check it out, maybe you can watch it to see if you like it before actually making the purchase. hebrew is a beautiful language. i've always felt bad about not being able to learn it. the problem is that even the letters are different. and once you've mastered that, you have to deal with that the vowels are not written. you just have to guess what the word means from the context. which doesn't work too well when the context is murky too. liza

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: multilingual delay speech?

i agree with all that has been said previously. it seem that the multilingual excuse has been taken away from us! it's too bad, i have a friend whose 2 year old only says mama and papa and still they hope it's because she is multilingual. unfortunately, their doctor told them that it was not normal and they have to worry more about speech development. thankfully, my daughter is really chatty so this is not a problem. she was always slow physically, she only started to walk at 16 months, but in speech she is a pro. she even sings songs with words. i am very proud of her. plus, she uses both spanish and russian, depending on whom she is speaking to. cheers, liza

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Lego, Blocks and Jigsaws what's normal

my daughter is 19 months old and doesn't seem to be interested in building anything with blocks. i was wondering if this is normal or if we should try getting other, similar toys to stimulate her interest. overall, i think it must be individual and not really a girl/boy thing. we have a friend, she's two and she has played with the same blocks we have for some time now. so, anything is normal i guess. i'd like her to develop different skills, but she doesn't seem interested. reading, on the other hand, she absolutely loves.

wow! all i can say is wow! i wish i knew more about early stimulation when my daughter was born. i thought that she'd figure it out on her own. well, it took her forever to walk, she almost didn't crawl either. so, it seems amazing what your baby has accomplished. that said, i do remember seeing babies crawling on their mother's bodies to get to the breast, right after birth, so movement is possible. still, who would have known. usually, newborns are just wrapped tightly to discourage any movement ( i remember reading that a baby can scare him or herself by the movement of their own limbs). in any case, congratulations. liza

i forgot to mention this in the previous post, but would the ones of you speaking a language other than english at home recommend re-recording the numbers into your language? i speak russian to my baby and now she has started saying "two, two" every time she sees the computer. she can't really understand it, can she? in any case, would it make it less confusing to translate the program? thanks, liza

BrillKids Software / Little Math - General Discussion / little math trial version
|
on: December 21, 2010, 08:10:59 PM
|

hi to all, so, my daughter and i have been doing the little math trail version for a couple of days now and i can say that 1. she doesn't like it 2. there are some problems with the sound 3. my husband thinks i am crazy and is against purchasing the program. has anyone really had any success with it? i know there is a long thread with domanmom and she is very enthusiastic, but has anyone else really noticed some understanding from their children? are you testing at all? when should i be able to see some correct answers, on the dots for example? i am just so confused. and i feel discouraged since everyone i know tells me it can't be done. thanks, liza

Thanks for your reply. I've started the trial version and my daughter seems to like it. I tried reading a bit more about it, but time is always short, ( I feel guilty saying this to a mom of two) and i just wanted to make sure that the different stages that Doman writes about were adequately represented in the LM. The trial version consists of dots only. Hopefully, just the LM will suffice. Thanks, Liza
