Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: girls or boys??

In the begining, pre children. I wanted one of each. The boy first. Well, I had my boy but then I had another boy. I still wanted a girl so we tried again and lucked out with our girl. Then we went on to have another boy! I'm pretty sure we're done now! I am glad I have both though, because even though I love all my kids, I think I would feel like I was missing something if I didn't.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: The Kumon Method

Good Point However, I find, especially with my oldest children, that if it's not just ME telling them to do something, they are way more motivated to do it. I think Kumon centers also have some sort of reward system in place for meeting goals. But, we could also come up with a system for rewards ourselves... Do you know where we could get the worksheets? Or what kind they are?

Sapna They do have it in the US. That is where I am located. I am actually surprised they have a center so close to me since I am in somewhat of a rural area. I guess it must be growing a lot here. JemJem Thanks for letting me know, but I have no idea what the conversion would be or even if there was one, to US dollars. I should of said I was in the US, I always forget how diverse the forum population is here.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Couplets?

I think the couplets are meant to be a stepping stone to sentences. I don't think you would make chopped sentences but things like - yellow star, blue ball, black dog. I just do things that make sense as a two word statement. For example you could start with..
Bouncing Ball Red Ball
Then combine them to make a sentence..
The red ball is bouncing.
or
The bouncing ball is red.

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Making your own Baby Formula

There's a liver based formula... I think it's great that you make your own formula. Commercially prepared anything, I think, isn't always in our best interest. However, I always chicken out doing things like that because I fear I would mess it up and do it wrong and cause more harm then good.

I second the wearing idea. On fussy days I used the ergo also on my back and if I quickly just walked through the house without stopping he would be asleep in no time. Although once asleep I never laid him down, didn't want to risk it. The ergo was easy enough on my back with a 30 lb boy!

Does he sleep all night after he falls asleep at 5? If so, I don't know that I would mess with it it may just be that he doesn't need any more sleep.
Although, if he is just napping at 5 and then staying up to late, I would want to change it too. Have you tried doing "quiet" activitiies like reading in bed or even watching a movie in bed. (If you allow tv) Don't try to force sleep just get him to settle for a bit and relax. Maybe that would give him enough of a recharge to make it until his regular bedtime.
I wish you luck. I know sleep issues can be soooo difficult. My little guy is a great napper luckily but a horrible night sleeper. He wakes very often at night.

BrillKids Software / Little Math - General Discussion / Re: Little Math Testimonials (Please claim!)

I have to say I was getting so overwhelmed with all there is to teach my little guy that we kind of just let math go for awhile. But now that we have Little Math, we are back at it. It is so easy to use, and quick! We fly through our lessons (in a good way!) My son loves the different images available to look at, no more boring red dots over and over! Thanks for a great program that makes it so much easier for us busy mommies to teach our babies.
