Chispa,
I'm still praying for you and wondering how your appointment went yesterday. I'm praying that the results from the test are not "worst case" scenario. Also, that the professionals that will be assisting you will have a clear mind and will be able to provide the exact help that you need. I also pray that you, too, will be able to process the information as clearly as you can and that you will have some sort of peace in this seemingly turbulent season of your life. Please keep us posted regarding your recovery.

Slightly off topic, but just wanted to share... This is a fun little song I used to sing with my kgtn class and now my son (18mo) enjoys: Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic January, February March, April and May June, July and August with September on it's way October and November With December at the end Then we start all over again I used to make the kids jump up from a crouching position when their birthday month was mentioned...and, of course, sing each round faster and faster until I feigned getting dizzy or the class got to rowdy with all the jumping up and down

Hi Mother of Faith,
Thanks for answering my question.
Here's an additional one: When you showed the letters initially, did you say this is an "ah" (letter sound) for the letter A or did you say this is an "A" (stating the letter name)? We've kind of been ignoring alphabet books right now...doing only word recognition exercises. Maybe I should be mixing it up a bit more... I'm afraid of my son getting mixed up like another mom here had said their child had (saying "F" when they see the word "frog" when they had previously been identifying the word)

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Feedback please - LR Curriculum's Word Flash lessons - Too long?
|

My son is 17 months old and depending on the time of day or what may be lying by the computer to distract him (he LOVES his "later" - calculator) he rarely looks at the screen for the entire time. It seems that he watches the words or series of words that he knows and disregards the new ones.
Also, on another note...If I may suggest, my personal thoughts are to show the pictures of the items first, then the word flash so that the child has a picture of the particular word in their head before they see the printed word...

Duh...I've never poked around in my account information...who knew????
So, about these suggested weekly lesson plans...are they actual lesson plans to use or is it just a "suggestion of ideas" of what you can/should do with your child that somewhat correspond with the LR lessons? (sorry for the run-on sentence!)

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Is having a second child important?

My two cents: I have a 16 mo old and we talked a LOT about this before we tried for a second child (I'm 40). We weighed all the pros & cons (considering my age and procreating again versus the benefits of my son having a sibling). During this time period, my boss, a single child, had to deal with her mother having a heart attack. It was she who sat at her mother's bedside day and night for days and days. She really felt the loneliness of carrying that burden alone...her husband and children were there for her, of course, but she was the one to make all her mother's decisions and her love was deeper. It was a very difficult period of life for her. Now that I am pregnant, I am afraid of the busyness of having two as my son ensures that I go to bed exhausted every night Reality is that we will die when he is still fairly young. I don't want him to feel as alone as my friend does now.

My boy is 16.5 months old and the other day he "tapped" his leg while "Old MacDonald" was playing. ("tap" is a YBCR word, as is the video of Old Mac) It was in perfect time, however, I think it was a fluke because that hasn't happened since! It would be amazing though if he did keep it up as I can't sing and clap at the same time...it's one or the other!

I just went to the Carl's Corner site (by the way the section to look for is called "Little Book Lane" not "Library Lane"...simple oops). Anyway, I LOVE the book on word families! This is a great site. Thank you for the tip, Mother of Faith. I'm looking forward to poking around there a bit more
