EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / I need advice: What to do with advenced reader kids in school
|
on: August 03, 2011, 08:14:08 PM

Hi, The other day my husband and I had a conversation about our son's schooling (even though we have a few more years to go -he's not even three yet). I am positive that I don't want to home school him (don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with that), but it also came up what to do with his advanced reading. I don't want him to be bored in class. Can he just attend a higher class only for reading? Or can we choose a language class instead of reading? I have no idea about our options. I would love to read about your experience, ideas, advice. Thanks

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Phonics teaching advise pls

I've just tried recently the "hiding word" game with my 32 month old boy. I made some flash cards like "c a t" and hid the card in a half-folded paper (like cardboard). And then started to pull out the word slowly (it depends how quick he is). He like it. We even make a guessing game of it : Who do you thing is hiding in the tunnel/ mountain.....So far it works for us.

Hi, Do you think the 2 week free trial of Speekee Tv is still available? If it is, could you help me how? I was really excited to try after I read your post but I could not find the way for the 2 week free trial. Maybe I just missed something... Thanks in advance, Stodd

Hi, I"ve just found "RightBrainEducationshop.com" where you van get access to over 6000 e-flash cards, eye exercises and more for a monthly payed amount. Since it's a little price for me, but at the same time seems really useful, I'm wondering if anybody has tried it and could share his/her experience. Thanks, Stodd

BrillKids Software / Little Musician - General Discussion / Re: LITTLE MUSICIAN - BETA TESTING - SIGN-UP

Hi, I would love to be part of Little MUsician Beta testing. My musical education started with my elementary school where we had every day music class with the Kodaly method (I'm from Hungary) learning to read- write musical notes, vocal classes, playing on instruments (8 years on violin and recorder) and a lot more. I have perfect pitch. I love music and now I want to pass my love and knowledge to my son who is 2.5 and also love music. Please let me know if I can be part of the beta test. Thanks, Stodd

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Is it Worth it?

I agree with you Rixu, that's why I went through the whole program, because I beieve that even if I can't see it's not a waste of time. Lately we just started to pay with smaller size paper plates: I wrote the numbers on and we glued little pom poms on them together. We put them in order with other symbols (+ - = etc.) or play to match the numbers with quantities of beans, marsh mellows....

I agree too I would be happy to get some ideas for math activities too. I have the same problem. I've done Doman Math with my son, tried to do everything I waas supposed to but I'm not sure if he knows it or not. And now I don't know what next. Try to count everything -yes, he can count till 16 or 20, it depends on his mood I guess. But I wish I could do more. I also agree that the reading process was/is easier for me, maybe just because I can see the result and how much his reading improves from time to time.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: How do you work in lots of languages?

Let me share my experience with you (guys) and hopefully I can help too. Learning as a little baby/ young child is just amazing! My son is bilingual: my husband talks in English, myself in Hungarian to/with him. He is 2.5 now and can understand both languages and speeks as well (his hungarian is better though since I'm home with him). Couple of month ago we started to introduce Spanish to him, watching Little Pim every morning and then using the words for a couple of minutes in different situations almost every day. He learned a lot, remembered words I needed to check in my notebook....So just a few days ago I started Little Pim in Chinese, again, every morning is with Chinese Pim, once a week some kind of spanish DVD plus every day some spanish exercise, mostly conversation, or "helping' me tu put the flashcards on the write objects.... Interesting thing happened the other day. Only after the second or third day of watching Chinese Pim, he used a word- obviously not english, nor Hungarian or Spanish but I just couldn't believe that he remembers and pronounce a Chinese word. AND HE DID! Next day he showed me on TV what he was talking about the day before! AMAZING!
