it sounds quite nice in words. lets put it to the test. i will do it for the next 2 weeks  and if i am successful i will send you lots of karma!

it sounds like it will work. especially the consequence. i would threaten him by saying " if u dont say thank you then i wont give u the sweet " which made him continue whinning for the sweet! there was no consequence for not listening to me.

i will keep you posted!

thanks for taking the time!
78  Downloads + Collaborations Discussions / Free Downloads / Re: How can different fonts influence your teachings? on: May 06, 2009, 05:20:11 PM
i would think that when you use different fonts you are showing the child that words can look different. you are saying that cat doesnt just look like this but it can look like that as well because of the way the letter a is written.

some kids just automatically learn phonics so i am sure that if they are shown a variety of fonts, their brains are probably wired to understand what it is.

the same way that i learnt how to read. the flashcards had the a written the other way but i could easily recognise it in the other type. i think it comes naturally to the kids.

if they were to learn that with cat maybe they could naturally realise it with other words that they havent seen in both types of fonts.

will do a problem solving technique with Sa'ad and let you know the outcome.

he reads my scribbly handwriting so will be an interesting experiment

its amazing how diverse all our careers are.
quite fascinating!

it must be so cool for all you guys in a field other than education because you then have your career and the knowledge about that field to pass down.
80  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: TERRIBLE TWO'S SOME ONE SAVE ME! on: May 06, 2009, 04:54:33 PM
i like the sound of that method Krista G. I am sure that if one is consistent on the method, it should work. or maybe you are just a good mom!!

ill give it a shot. i know that i need to enforce it now though because any later would be too late but what do you do when you are in a public situation. when say someone gives your child a sweet. the first thing i say is " Sa'ad say thank you." and then if he doesnt what do i do.

thats a tricky one. karma to anyone who can give me a solution that works!!
81  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Library idea... on: May 06, 2009, 02:24:59 PM
it would be great to have access to this kind of material coz when you are busy the whole day with teaching your child its hard to find these great books. i havent heard of the books that were recommended but i am sure they would add great value to my life.

afterall parents have to also study to be great parents!!
82  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: TERRIBLE TWO'S SOME ONE SAVE ME! on: May 06, 2009, 02:19:40 PM
i want to read that book as well.

i want to be gentle with my 2 yr old.
he refuses to say please or thank you or greet purely because i ask him to. its like he enjoys having this power over me.

time outs and scolding just makes it worse coz he does not understand timeout. or maybe he is tricking me into believing that he doesnt. i dont want to scream because i just get upset so i just ignore his naughty deeds.

i am afraid that if i ignore him he might think its okay to not say please and that he will grow up not saying please.

didnt doman say that kids on the doman programme were suppose to be delightful and a pleasure to be around!?
83  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: what do you do for a living? on: May 06, 2009, 01:28:34 PM
hi there

i have a mum and baby school. mums bring their kids and themselves for the class. its 2 hours long and we have a new theme each week. the last half an hour is tea where the moms have tea and cake and the kids have chips and juice and play.
i have class 3 times a week so for the rest of the time i am a professional mom Wink

i love my job because i get to share everything i learn with other moms. they know all about doman and some are on brillkids. you will be surprised at how many moms are not aware of this but many of them believe that their child has a lot of potential. most of them have begun the wonderful journey of teaching.

i love being the professional mom more though
84  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: having big problems with little naps on: May 06, 2009, 01:06:59 PM
hi there

heres some stuff that i learnt about sleep

diet plays an important role. your child needs enough protein and your childs iron levels must be right.

your childs routine must be as predictable as possible say an hour before nap or sleep.try playing a song your child likes thats soothing. also try and swing your child in  a swing or rocker for minumum 10 minutes as that helps them fall asleep later. not sure why but if your baby sleeps at 7 then try the swinging at 5.

keep to bath time routines and especially with 2yr olds, they need their routine predictable and rigid. if you want to be more extreme then you are going to have to sleep train.

hope this helps.

teething can upset sleep like my son at the moment. his molars are coming out so he is not sleeping well at the moment. Sad

1. i know all about Africa. i know where  sudan is. thats because i live in Africa. however i dont know how many states are in the usa or how many presidents there were or who they are.

2. when i want to chat online i play mickey mouse club house or little einsteins.

3. i give Sa'ad candy coated chocolate sweets with lots of bad nasty sugar when i need him to be quiet.

4. i cant get my son who can read and is doing maths and can speak in sentences to say please or thank you. he screamed 4 half an hour when i refused to give him a sweet and then i just gave it coz i couldnt stand the tantrum.
86  Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: What's Mom's job worth? on: May 05, 2009, 02:46:01 PM
122$k. now convert that into rands. id be a millionaire in a couple of years!

ahhh if only!!!!

the joys of motherhood!  (sigh)
87  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: how do you keep consistent on your program on: May 03, 2009, 07:46:51 AM
such fascinating insights!

glad i asked. i love the organisation tips and those unique ideas like the books all over the place and the rocks!!

what also helps me is when i am up early than usual and i organise myself and the house and the food by say 8 or 9. then my day seems to go so smooth. and i fit in what i need to and more. but my personality is such that if i dont stick to my routine, my whole day falls apart. thats my biggest concern at the moment. its all about me!!!! and how efficient i can be to make the best of my day. you get some moms that have all this energy and their home is always running the way it should. im not one of them! but when i try harder i somehow have more motivation and energy.
88  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / how do you keep consistent on your program on: May 01, 2009, 07:27:25 PM
hi there.

consistency seems to be the key to a successful outcome of the reading maths and general knowledge program.

id like to know your ideas on how to keep the program going. how do u stay focused. do you keep reminders or do you have an interesting routine.
please share!! it would be helpful to alot of us.

thanx

90  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: how do i make maths equations and use in doman program on: May 01, 2009, 06:22:15 AM
thanx for your help and karma to u guys.

ive printed out schedule. i also need to know how many equations i need to show in a day.
do i show 1 equation only at a time or do i show 3 at a time?
i also need to know what the frequency is. how many times a day do i show each equation?
that would help me tons.

thanx again
