Hi Purple Fungi Can you please tell me if the Japanese version of LP shows the Japanese characters (Hiragana & Kanji I think they are called). I'd like to buy them (have the Chinese ones already) but I want my daughter to learn how to read Japanese as well. Many thanks PS: Love your blog!

Hi Stacey Try to contact 'angelaying' on Youtube. I'm not sure whether they did the animations themselves or whether it is a copy for a child's dvd.
He is the translation for this sing:
Nice Poppy
I went down to my garden To gather some rosemary Nice poppy; ladies Nice new poppy
To gather some rosemary I hadn't gathered three sprigs of it Nice poppy…
I hadn't gathered three sprigs of it When a nightingale came on my hand
When a nightingale came on my hand It told me three words in Latin
It told me three words in Latin That men are worth nothing
That men are worth nothing And boys much lesser
And boys very less still It told me nothing about ladies
It told me nothing about ladies But much good about maidens.

I believe Doman talks about early talkers (babies a few weeks or months old) in How Smart is Your Baby. Mums can sing a song over and over again and get to baby to fill in the blanks. Am doing it now with my daughter and when she does concentrate and focus on me and the song, she definitely helps me singing.

At the moment, it is purely a selfish reason pastime (baby is still little so I do not get much feedback). I love teaching, reading, discovering.. I love creating EK, watching the foreign language videos with my daughter, showing her flashcards and doing physical activities. When she is older and able to tell me what she likes and dislike, I'll make sure there is no pressure from my part and will teach her what she is interested in. I'm hoping to 'benefit' from my daughter's knowledge, especially in foreign languages, she'll be my translator when we go to Japan or China :-)
I am a French teacher and see 20 year old uni students everyday struggling to master this foreign language, which is taught in the most unnatural way. I believe early contact or total immersion are the only way to master a language. I tremendously enjoy seeing my students progress, but only a few will attain a great level, unfortunately.

My daughter just said Allo today (French for Hello, when you pick up the phone) She heard my phone ring and said AwwwO. We called the house phone a few time to get her to do it again, and she did it a few times. (She is almost 9 months) Phones (mobiles) are her favorite toys. I have no idea why. Partner reckons it is because she's seen them since she was born. I am paranoiac so I turn my phone off when I give it to her, and I don't let her put it in her month as it must be full of germs.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: has anyone followed "How Smart is Your Baby" from week 1? Teaching a newborn ...

Hi Mtb The first weeks of my daughter's life were very quiet. She had a difficult birth and I felt like she needed this special first days to discover a peaceful and quiet world. I actually had a lot of issues with meeting with family members or parents who would talk to her very loudly, constantly rock her, and shake toys near her when she was awake. So at the very very beginning, I was not keen on much of what Doman recomends. Maybe showing her some cards, very slowly and nicely, when she is cuddling in your arms. I was humming songs quietly and touching her a lot, and I figured that's all she needed at that time. ps: I do not think Doman recommend flashing the light into Baby's eyes. There are exercises, the one when you turn the ceiling's light on and off while he's in the room/ The second is with a torch but the light shines on your hand which is near baby's sight, so he can look for it.

Oh no, PurpleFungi, this is not too ambitious. If your children have an interest in all of these languages, it won't make a difference for them whether they listen to 1 or 10 different languages. I remember reading a text at Uni about a typical Indian man who would listen to 8 different language (and understand most of them) throughout is day. So many people master 3 & 4 languages and would use other ones in a limited way.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Encyclopedic Knowledge / Re: What Age do you start Encyclopedic Knowledge?

I started last month when my daughter was 7 months. I'm not teaching her Maths yet, I will do it on the computer rather than with flashcards (I printed 100 of them months ago on regular paper and do not want to laminate them, it would end up too expensive, especially as I do not know whether she'll 'take' to it or not) EK is my saviour at the moment as my daughter is not interested in words, but will look at pictures.

Hi all I liked the book but I would not do everything (not even half of it) as I think it is a little bit too extreme (i.e each activity, X times a day, everyday) Especially in the first few months when mothers are usually tired, it adds a little bit too much pressure in my opinion. You can do a lot of tummy time without building an expensive crawling track.
