I think if you do the sign and say the word your are reinforcing comunication.

My baby started signing when she was 11 months old. They need to have coordination of her little hand before start signing.

I actually had one incident when a friend and I had a falling out. She email my son's father(we are not together) and told him that she felt bad for Wesley because I'm not really homeschooling him, I'm just letting the TV do it for me. She miss understood the WHOLE idea of early learning. All she heard when I told her about it was the DVD programs and nothing about the flashcards, worksheets, games, reading and actually hands on learning. *Sigh!*

wow! I can't believe somebody will actually e-mail your husband to get you in trouble for something so personal!! Sorry to hear that waterdreamer.
Here and there people will say comments or stuff like " your child is so smart" she is reading at  2.5 years old!!!  But I always say " You just need to follow the child" my daughter since she was very young showed lots of interest in books and then letters...that is why I gave her all the tools to learn.
BUT  I think parents take evrything very personal related with her kids(we all do) if other people's child speaks 4 languages they will say OHH why my child doesn't??I am a bad parent...etc. It is very hard to make some people undertand that it is a process and our kids are actually having fun while learning.
Yesterday while my daughter was reading a book for her dad in church, this guy asked me " how can your daughter is reading and my child who is 5 years ols is not even spelling words).Then I replied, What do you guys do after work? he says , well I do my things and my daughter watches her movies until it is time to go to sleep. AND I say , my friend there is your answer!!
He was very embarrased and say after tomorrow we will start reading to her!!

My prioriry will be references for that school!!
Next go for a visit and see if it is clean, friendly people and a safe enviroment.
Ask about the curriculum,if your child is advance for certain class can he move to the next class.
ALso I will have to meet the teacher before signing my daughter up for the program..not kiding. Think that your child will be most of the day with her...and you need to know her, ask question about her experience,homeworks,time outs,how many kids for class, You mom need to feel the conexion right there...otherways look for another program.
Well I don't think my priority will be the distance from my house, I woudn't mind driving long distance for  GOOD SCHOOL!!

 I will actually pull my child out from this program  right now!!if  you are going to  report this case to the authorities,I don't think is a good idea to keep your child there. You should have more options, there is always another window open!!
I wish you the best courage to deal with this!!

I for one (I run a home daycare) would never bathe someone elses child. I haven't ran into this problem yet, but if a child soils themself so badly that they need a bath they are required to go home and bathe. Bathing a daycare child just opens up a whole can of worms I'm not willing to open. Not only that, I have 3 other children to supervise, who would watch them while I give someone else a bath?

I totally understand your point of view, being a daycare provider envolves lots of responsability ..but Years ago When I was in collegue I used to baby sit for a family for over 3 years, they had couple of  wonderful kids, their parents were very busy most of the day at work or travelling, so I was the one who will cook for them, take them places, take them to the preschool,soccer,beisbol,jockey..etc and also bath them and put them to sleep. These kids will cried whenever I had to live their house ..they will say don't go!!. I still visit them at least twice a year, their family loves my daughter, we still have a great  friendly relation. One I got married these kids were the ring kids..these kids and their parents are like family to me!! Of course I just had two of them..this is a different situation than having a daycare with more children. This is a different case.
My point is I don't think there is something terrible wrong bathing a child with PREVIOUS authorizacion of the parent of course. If they trust you enough to take care of them during the day and even change their diapers , I don't really understand why people always goes to the bad and dark site of situations...
I was talking  with a teacher assistant yesterday and she said that in the school she works they don't allow to hug the kids or even play with them because it can open bad interpretations...if the kids want to give you a hug you need to push them away!!
BUT I like I said locking him in the bathroom and leave him all by himself !!!! THAT  IS WAY OUT OF LINE!!! UNACCEPTABLE..
Well I think this is a very different topic ...Going back to sthomas9 situation... I wish you guys go thru this sad event and feel better soon.
