My baby would also look away when I showed him paper flashcards- however, he has responded well to the LR. He literally begs for more There are many factors that come into play with paper flashcards- they have to be shown when the baby is fully attentive and in a good mood; size of the pictures; if they are not shown quickly, the baby looses interest etc. With LR, these problems can be easily overcome. My son totally enjoys seeing the pictures with sound.

I agree with questers, try the LR- it'll work.

PS: I tried the free version before I bought mine. That will give you a good idea of whether or not your baby likes it.

Here are my 10 cents-

I am teaching my baby using Doman math cards and I think (If you are in US), it is both cost and time effective to buy them from IAHP institute-It costs around $ 50- they give discounts sometimes-  got mine for $40. They have equations on the back of the cards as well, so that is really helpful.

You seem to be very organized and have prepared well- you can start the reading program when you have prepared atleast 200 cards.

When I wrote to the institutes to find out how I should proceed- they asked me to start with the reading program first and then add math and EK (after i was comfortable with the reading cards). I had planned all of this well, but my baby decided to change my plans  - he did not like the word cards but LOVED the math cards- so I started with math. Then I bought the LR and he loved it- now we do both- math and LR. My word flash cards seem to be of no use now I hope to incorporate them in our curriculum later.

Also, Doman suggests that we do 10 math cards a day- but we do only 5 right now- I'll add more cards slowly. You will also have to see how many cards your baby likes to see- he many not neccessarily pay attention to 5 cards in one session, he may want to see only 3 at first- whatever happens, don't give up and let your baby guide you. The idea after all is to have fun teaching and learning

Is anyone teaching their child how to read Marathi? we may be able to help each other make presentations. Does anyone know where I may get marathi flashcards?

Yes- AUM should be said while exhaling (after taking a deep breath).

I did sit down to meditate- that way I don't end up multitasking and can concentrate totally on meditation (It sound funny, but at times, its hard to get your mind off other things I did this consistently. Position wise, sometimes when I could not sit, I would lie down and do it- whatever is comfortable.

Doing it on the go may have some disadvantages- one may not be relaxed mentally- I read somewhere about this mom who would hear Mozart while pregnant, she lost her father during her pregnancy, so she was sad, but she continued listening to Mozart thinking it may help her baby- however, after the baby was born, he would start crying on listening to Mozart- this shows that a mom's emotions and mental state at the time she is doing things for her baby prenatally also has a lot of effect.

here's my experience- It may not help you now but you may be able to recommend it to others. We did prenatal stimulation- we read a number of articles on this topic and tried to incorporate different techniques in our daily routine when I was pregnant (music, reading, meditation, etc). I would meditate and say 'AUM' before I slept at night- this would really relax me and I would sleep better.

When my son was born, he had to be kept in the NICU for 3 days- he was attached to the telemetry monitors. When I would go to visit him, I would chant 'AUM' to relax him ...and his heart rate would drop from 130's to 90's...it was amazing! All the alarms would go off and the nurses would panic- that is until I told them what I was doing (I am a physician, so they trusted me . I repeated this on 3 different occasions and the same thing happened.

My baby feels relaxed and stops crying when I chant 'AUM' now and he started saying AUM at the age of 4 and a half months! (basically he imitates me) He is 7 months now.

I hope to continue this and hope it will help him in the future.

I have started teaching my 6 month old using Doman math cards and the LR (for some reason, he did not enjoy the word flashcards that I had made, but took well to the math cards!)

According to the Doman method, each word has to be shown atleast 15 times (3 times a day for 5 days), but the Brillkids curriculum suggests that the words be shown 12 times....can someone explain this to me. Is there some research done on this.

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to ask other parents not to give up- try all methods and your baby will guide you as to which learning method you should use. I tried a lot of permutations and combinations before we got to THE curriculum for my baby- and now, we are loving it!
