EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Glenn Doman -How to teach your Baby to read

hi babymum... I made a spreadhseet for you.. All you need to do is to type in the words you want to show to your baby in the Yellow boxes on the left side. The words will appear in the table accrodingly. You do not need to change anything else in the spreadsheet. Only the Yellow boxes. After you type in the words, you can print out. The Session1, Session2, Session3 boxes on the right is for you to keep track.. That way you dont have to write the dates/sessions on the flashcards.. There is also speadsheets for couplets and phrases in there.. (after you finish showing the 200 single words) Hope this helps !

hi babymum.. to add on to dna's reply.. http://www.childandme.com/glenn-domans-method-teaching-baby-read-brief/also a suggestion to your question on how to retire words after the 5th day (taken from childandme.com also) :- After showing your 25 words for 5 days you don’t have to retire all 25. You retire just five words and add five new ones. Daily. Here is an example: I have a set of five words for my baby - apple - milk - bread - carrot - banana I am showing these words for 5 days, 3x a day. At the beginning of the next week, I retire just one word (let’s say, a word “banana”), and add a new one, so the set looks like this: - apple - milk - bread - carrot NEW: soup My baby is happy to see old words (someone just recently mentioned that her baby loved old words so much, this mom ended up with two piles – the baby got very upset when any old words would disappear) and even happier – for a surprise: a new word (“soup”)!
I show these words 3x on Monday. On Tuesday I retire another old word (“carrot”) and add another new one, so my set looks like this: - apple - milk - bread - soup NEW: butter
So, similarly, on Wednesday my set will look like this: - apple - milk - soup - butter NEW: cereal
By the end of the week, all the words from week 1 would be replaced and the baby will start getting familiar with the 5 new words! So you just continue like this adding one/removing one from each set and adjusting your sets according to your baby’s interest.hope this helps..

Hi A_BC, Cheers to you for championing breastfeeding! i'm 100% pro breastfeeding too! if you noticed I posted previously in this thread : Mums should breastfeed for at least four months to avoid having naughty kidsand then quoted : " The golden rule then when it comes to feeding an infant seems to be to breastfeed exclusively for the first four months of life, then begin to offer them vegetable puree to ensure they develop a healthy taste palette" I guess both article has a common theme.. that breastfeeding is good! preferably for a longer duration! (at least 4 months as per the study) BUT suggested not to be done Exclusively for too short or too long a period. Notice the word EXCLUSIVELY is mentioned a few times in that article on obesity.. It recommends breastfeeding exclusively for the first four months of life, then begin to offer them vegetable puree to ensure they develop a healthy taste palette.

Hi krksona , Interesting indeed there are so many different takes on how long we should be breastfeeding our babies..
Sharing an article suggesting that prolonged exclusive breastfeeding could lead to obesity.. quoted from blogs.babble.com
Exclusively breastfeeding too little or too long can cause obesity.
The New York magazine blog Grub Street brought up an interesting juxtaposition the other day, suggesting that American mothers don’t breastfeed long enough, while mothers in the UK breastfeed too long. That’s because most American mothers don’t breastfeed exclusively for the first four months of life as the American Association of Pediatrics recommends, but British mothers are taught to abide by the rules of the World Health Organization that suggest they should offer their infants breastmilk exclusively for the first six months of life.
Dr. Mary Fewtrell, a pediatrician in London, believes “there is a higher risk of a baby developing iron-deficiency anemia and food allergies like celiac disease if kids don’t get certain solid foods before they’re 6 months old.” So the Brits are hoping to move to a model that encourages mothers to start feeding their infants some solids in addition to breastmilk at around 4 months of age.
Interestingly enough, Fewtrell and her colleagues also believe that “prolonged exclusive breast feeding may reduce the window for introducing new tastes, particularly bitter taste which may be important in the later acceptance of green leafy vegetables.” They feel this could “encourage unhealthy eating in later life and lead to obesity.”
What is even more remarkable is that supplementing breastmilk with juice or solids too early is thought to have the same obesity-causing effect. A new study in Pediatrics shows that 20 percent of babies in low-income families in North Carolina “were fed solid foods or juice by age 1 month; and by 3 months old, 70 percent were getting fed something (often fruit juice or added cereal) in addition to milk or formula.” Rodale.com reports that “Infants fed these foods consume 100 more calories a day than infants given only formula or only breast milk, which can lead to babies who are overweight for their height.”
The golden rule then when it comes to feeding an infant seems to be to breastfeed exclusively for the first four months of life, then begin to offer them vegetable puree to ensure they develop a healthy taste palette.

hi dna & krksona.. here's some suggestions for your alpha wave music search! http://www.rightbrainkids.com/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage6/product_id,111/category_id,47/manufacturer_id,0/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,26/https://www.innertalk.com/cgi-bin/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=3764.27580*kQ1fR0&p_id=CD13190&xm=on&ppinc=search2 http://babyworld.com.sg/alpha-brain-wave-music-collection-p-533.htmlhttp://www.rightbraineducationshop.com/products.php?id=1I used the innertalk (second link above) alpha wave music for myself (way before i got pregnant) due to the tremendous stress & extreme working environment (unable to sleep, mild depression blahblah bla).. Found out about alpha music when I was browsing at a local book store. Innertalk is available at major bookstores here..so I read the brochure, testimonials.. and bought it straight away. (desperate for help! ) I do believe it helped me to be more calm.. Now i used it for my baby .. & I can sense that he enjoys it btw, innertalk has a huge library of titles to choose from.. i think the only difference in theirs CDs are the positive affirmations embeded in each title.. one complain for them is that they are not cheap hope this helps
