Thanks very much for the advice Kezia,

I'm hoping to convince her to invest in LMh with the new bub so it will be exciting to show her how much my wee man loves it while we're here smile
2  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: When is the best time to start? on: December 05, 2013, 09:48:36 PM
we actually started all three programs at 2mo (after a month of basic family name/ body part flashcards)
we're up to day 70 in math
65 in music and 59 in litle reader

the math is a big hit. especially the quantity lessons. who knew?
equations are a bit trickier as they are SLOW
im still tinkering with the controls to try and speed it up without running it all into one confusing mess

little reader is harder as its longer and slower
I've thought about cutting out the video but i dont want him to miss out on content
3  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Infant Tummy Time on: December 05, 2013, 09:37:38 PM
The crawling track was a stunning failure in our house.

He motored down the length of it at 6days
Any time after that he felt boxed in by the sides and screamed.

We did lots of crawling practice in the first few months, scooting across a mat, pushing off my hands.
Then he decided he'd much rather walk.
Crawling got too frustrating as he put on more weight. He'd try push off my hands and just start screaming to be picked up.

He's not rolling yet. He can pivot around to watch things he is interested in.
Tummy time is fun as long as im hanging out on the ground with him.

I'm sure Glen and Janet would tell me off but i let him support his weight/balance by holding my fingers and he really enjoys stepping.

Whenever people see him standing/stepping they give me advice about the importance of crawling or say "oooh be careful, thats not good for his legs".
Its a bit hard to 'make' a baby crawl. and its not me that initiates the standing, he makes his wishes perfectly clear to anyone who is holding him.
His great gran is always telling us off for standing him. He is 4months, she had him the other day. I held my tongue as I watched him get her to sit him up from the cradle hold, then he made her stand him, then he made her put him on the ground, then her nearly dragged her off the chair as he marched off accross the room. I'd never seen such insistant stepping from him, i wish i had captured it all on my camera. It was the funniest thing. I'm not even sure she noticed that she'd done a complete 180 on her advice.  yes
4  BrillKids Software / Tech Support / intalling LM on someone elses computer on: December 05, 2013, 09:07:35 PM
Im going away for a month to visit my sister (for the birth of the next EL baby).
I'm not able to take my EL laptop as my man uses it for work.

We're up to day 70 in LM and I dont want to lose momentum.

My sister has LR and LMs.
Can i install LM on her laptop and use my licence key? will it interfere with her LR and LMS?

Can i use my 'free activation slot'? or do i need to 'remove activation' on my own EL laptop first?

Thanks in advance
5  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Grasp Exercises - Doing them Incorrectly on: November 23, 2013, 07:39:29 PM
How are you getting on with the grasp now luv2laugh?
My baby is 17 weeks and i couldn't get a grasp either.

For the last 2 months I've been working on it by standing him in my lap, having him hold my thumbs and rocking him back and forth to 'row row row your boat'. he's got a much tighter, consisant grip now.
He is really keen on standing up and taking steps so i let him maintain his balance by gripping my fingers at his chest height.
I haven't tried lifting him with it yet.

I planned to do the vestibular activies and even made a set of prompt cards for each one but we dont do thenm very often at all. :/
6  BrillKids Software / HOW TOs and FAQs / Re: How to Customise Playback on: November 23, 2013, 06:51:23 PM
installed update
reset override settings
set up override settings

session 1 quantity lessons work great with the selected icons and subtitles
session 1 & 2 Math lessons work great: selected icons & subtitles

session 2 quantity lessons still dont show icons  :/
i get the subtitles and a blank screen

in Little Reader i can change the way lessons play back in future with 'edit playback settings', 'save as' saving the changes under the original title eg.Multisensory (Review1, Random)  these changes apply to all future lessons programmed to use this playback setting.
is there an analogous way to change the playback settings in LM. I have only been able to find a way to do this one lesson at a time.
I've tried changing settings under 'play and edit', 'numbers', 'random icon, random placement' and 'radom icon, rapid flash - ive tried editing lessons for the whole folder and the individual file (71 to 80) neither of these makes any difference to the playback settings for session 2 quantity lessons.

7  BrillKids Software / HOW TOs and FAQs / Re: How to Customise Playback on: November 21, 2013, 05:13:26 AM

thanks Kezia,
I'll intall update tonight and try the lesons in the morning smile
8  BrillKids Software / HOW TOs and FAQs / Re: How to Customise Playback on: November 20, 2013, 10:14:28 AM
Thanks Kezia,
Narrating the math lessons really worked!

However, still the same bug with session 2: shows the subtitles but no icons when override is on.

session 1  multiples - subtitles & icons
session 1 math - subtitles & icons
session 2 multiples - no icons (for both lesson 1 & 2)
session 2 math - subtitles & icons

we're on version 2.1.660 PRO

thanks so much for your support
9  BrillKids Software / HOW TOs and FAQs / Re: How to Customise Playback on: November 19, 2013, 11:40:40 PM
I'm frustrated by Little Math and need some help working out how to customise the lessons.

We're up to day 59 - which is wonderful. My baby enjoys quantity lessons. I am amazed and delighted. smile

This is an amazing product and I'm always trying to find ways of spreading the word.
It would be an overwhelming task to try and replicate this with flashcards.

I have been able to override the Quantity Lessons in session 1 to include preview subtitles so i can be the soundtrack. The override does not work for session 2 for some reason, if i have the override on (same settings as for session 1) i get no icons. I put in a support query about this way back at day 20 but haven't recieved a response - maybe it didnt work, i know you guys are usually really on to it with customer support.
I have learnt to put override on and off as i go through the day but there must be a better way.

Now we are up to Math Lessons I REALLY need to get the preview subtitles working as he is starting to lose interest. ohmy
I'd love to know how to change the settings universally rather than one lesson at a time (which breaks his concentration and is not really something i want to sit down and do ahead of time each day.)

I also want a different icon for each expression so that its not just one long confusion for him.

Thanks in advance,
Rachel and the Nicklet

13  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Screen time?? on: May 30, 2013, 07:59:26 PM
I think the advice relates more to rubbish like spongebob and pokemon than tools like Little Reader.

My baby will start screen time at 3-4 months depending on his interest in it.
I'm going to use LR, LM and LMs plus free media that i've been collecting through my pregnancy.
We'll get him an ipad as soon as he has the dexterity to use it.
(im still on the fence about tweedlewink)

I've made a bunch of picture cards and word cards for real world stimulation as the "lessons" are only a few minutes per day. I've got a big box of YBCR and homemade sign cards coming from my sister. My artist mother is coming home a month early to work on materials for him. smile

This babys generation will use technology more than we can imagine. I think that learning the language of technology is as important as reading. This doesn't mean that he'll be a couch potato, plugged into a screen all day. The immediate family has diverse and active passions: dance, sport, hiking, art, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, travel and exploration. There'll be more than enough to keep him entertained outside of a screen without even trying (but i cant wait to find out who he is and what interesting places that leads us to...).

PokerDad, Thanks so much for the update.
I vividly remember watching your swimming clips, squirming with a mixture of delight and anxiety last year. We were just researching how to teach self rescue / swimming to my niece. It was great to see you doing it in real time. I'm planning on starting water safety/swimming from the get go when my bump turns into a little man in the next month or two, i'll be revisiting your post for ideas.
Its very interesting to me to see the things that you are focusing on and the progress you are making. I look at babies (in the offline world) and wonder how much different an EL kid would be. you give me a very useful point of reference. thanks

And the title picture on your blog post is just TOO cute!  smile
