Hi there, I was told my daugther could be autistic by the Dept of Education's Special Children Services's Education Advisor. She shows signs of autism but also show signs that she's not autistic.
What are food that contain gluten?
What are the food that you feed your child now?
I would really appreciate if you could give as many examples of food and drink as possible.
We are Asian and therefore rice, noodle, vermicelli & etc are often eaten. SHe drinks soya milk.
THank you.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How to teach Shichida method?

I took my daughters to be assessed by the Melbourne Shichida Centre last week. The review results show that my 4 yrs old is 20% above the average while my 2.5yrs is in the "C" curve in the chart. The 50mins lesson is going to cost AUD55 a week. I'm contemplating. I would like to try to use Right Brain Kids' Tweedle Wink and incorporate Wink in teaching my girls instead. We have not been doing the Right Brain Kids for many months because of my dad's seriously ill to his recent demise in April. I would like to restart but don't have an idea as to where to start! ANyone has any recommendation on the materials to start for my 2.5 yrs old and my full time schooling 4 yrs old (@ Montessori)? WE use IAHP products, LR, LM, Right Brain Kids', Signing Time, Shichida...etc.... I would like to teach my 4 yrs old Abacus. Where can I get the info on how to teach Abacus? How to teach addition the right brain way? How to get my girls to be interested in learning the Right Brain way? Pls advise... thanks a lot!

Hi all...
I have problems in how to discipline my daughter! She cannot sit still for more than 5 minutes!! When I get her to do some writing, she'll write a few words and run around. I have to shout for her to come back to sit down. Even her Montessori teacher is complaining to me of having problems in getting her into the structure!
How do I teach her math? I have friends who are fans of Kumon but some not because Kumon is left brain teaching! What about teaching Abacus? Which products & manuals are the best in teaching Abacus @ home? She is now exposed to SIgning TIme by Rachel Coleman because of her little sister and she has learnt alot from Signing Time.
She is also reading up to Book 3a and 3b of Peter & Jane Books by Ladybirds. She can write from 1 - 100 and backwards from 100 - 1. She recognises more than 100 chinese words. Is this supposed to be within her age's normal learning ability?
Please help!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: experiences with signing

My little girl whom will turn 2 come Feb 2009 is not talking yet though she says words like "dar-dee", "ma", "ma-mee"..but not looking at us when she says those words. So, i'm not sure if she is really talking.
Her pediatrician did refer her to Speech Therapist but I don't see a need at this point of time as there are kids that only talk when they turn 3 or even later!
My concern is if I teach her to sign, would this discourage her from talking altogether since she has found a new way of communication without having to express her thoughts, feelings & messages through words?

Please don't force your child to speak. When she's ready, she will speak. Meanwhile, encourage her with lots of stimulations that you have been doing.
Do you know, Albert Einstein only started talking at age 9? I have a cousin who only talked when he was 3. My god son only decided to talk when he turned 2.5 yrs. Oh..my little girl who's 16 mths still doesn't call me "mama" or call her daddy "daddy"!.. we are not in a rush cos we know she's absorbing what we are teaching her, showing her, stimulating her and etc.. and we know when she is ready, she'll talk!
If you are very very concern, take her to a speech pathologist who would be able to teach you ways to encourage talking. That was told by my girl's paediatrician when I told her my girl's not talking.

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: How frequent should we show the flashcards?

There are good days and bad days in life.
My girls go through their cards, 5 categories of English word cards, 5 categories of Chinese word cards and 12 Equations a day, according to Doman's method.
My older girl requested me to stop and she said, "mummy, i don't want to look at flashcards. I want to read books!" So, we have put away flashcards for her for about 6 months now. That's how I started showing her Doman's Bits of Intelligence CD-ROMs, Dr. Robert Titzer's DVDs and TweedleWink DVDs. She was quite reluctant at the beginning but she doesn't mind and in fact enjoy watching them now. Sometimes when she gets up in the morning or from her nap, she'll tell me, "mummy, I want to watch Aleka." or "mummy, please show Marissa TweedleWink." or "mummy, where's your Bits CDs?"
My younger girl was not interested for a while when I was showing her and separate showing all the cards above into 3 times a day. I stopped. I tried again in a few days and she wasn't interested again. We decided to take a break and stop for 2 months. When I re-introduced flashcards into her life one morning after she woke up, I was amazed to see her reactions towards the cards as her facial expressions were trying to tell me she misses her flashcards sessions! She was wiggling her little toes and clapping her chubby hands and smiling as wide as she can! I then showed her quickly all the cards and repeated 3 times all in one go! From then onwards, I know that her preferred time of learning flashcards is when she just woke up in the morning. I keep the rest of the day free of flashcards but with other stimulations. She watches those DVDs with her sister and play the rest of the day!
So, be flexible and try different ways to find out which one(s) is/are most suitable for your child (children). They will indicate to you of their preference(s). There's no point forcing and get stressed up which I used to before!

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: When will the swimming article be up?

Hello,
Glenn Doman's son Douglas Doman wrote a book called How to Teach Your Baby to Swim. It's a good read with full of photographs!
My 2 girls started going to Baby Swimmers Lessons earlier this year. Marissa was 2.5 yrs then while Allyssa's 11 months. The only advise I have is this.. PLEASE START YOUR CHILD AS EARLY AS YOU CAN!!
Allyssa can be independent in the water with the help of floats and arm rings. She is very happy when in the pool. She kinda have natural instinct of kicking to keep herself afloat and keeping her mouth shut so as not to drink water when going under the water. Swimming also helps her crawl faster and balance well. As for Marissa, at her age, she starts to be cautious and will cling on you even the floats are with her. She knows she can drown if she lets go of you and floats! She is supposed to learn swimming independently without parent's present in the pool at this age, I still have to go with her now. She will be independent with her swimming coach next term. Having said that, both girls enjoy water!! They enjoy the lessons and ask us to take them to the swimming pool as often as time permits! It's part of our bonding sessions!

Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Hello Wonderful Parents..

I'm new to this website!
I'm a PROFESSIONAL MUMMY!! I have two wonderful & beautiful daughters! I Love them dearly. Both me & my husband are very involved in our children.
I came across Multiple Intelligence when my eldest daughter was 6 months. I googled the 2 words and Glenn Doman came up. That's how teaching my children flashcards started.
Marissa started Glenn Doman's English & Math when she was 8 months old (She's 34 months now) while Allyssa started the day she was born (She's 16 mths now). We have recently incorporated Dr. Robert Titzer's DVDs and Right Brain Kids' TweedleWink to both of them. I also teach them Chinese flashcards, listening to foreign languages CDs, classical music, nursery rhymes in English and Chinese when in car, as background music when they are playing. They both attend Suzuki Music for babies and toddlers once a week as well as swimming lesson for babies once a week.
Marissa started going to Classical Montessori school in February 2008 for twice a week (2 hours each time). Both girls prefer books to toys.
They also watch their favorite programs like Little Einstein, Dora (where Marissa actually picks up her Spanish words), Diego, Peppa Pig, Lazytown, Wonder Pets, Little Bill, Blue's Clues, Max and Ruby and etc. Apart from doing all these, they go to the playground as often as we can bring them, or, play with their toys and musical instruments for toddlers, paintings and coloring, play dough, practical life and etc at home. All these things are readily available to them at anytime in the house.
They love what they are doing! They are both very happy children and very active and sociable!
I love my children!
