Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Feeding till how long?

Hi, mybabyian: Actually it is latter, I am not sure if I should stop due to his age, as I don't know the effects of forced weening or the disadvantages are of feeding till this age or any advantages . I only anticipated doing it till age 2 . He might be my last baby. I don't want to have memories of forced weaning. I would rather understand why he wants to continue more and work with him in finding a replacement. Thanks everyone for the advice. I think we reached a middle ground. Instead of sippy cup, I tried an open cup on the table and fill it constantly with milk and a little flavor along with straw in it. I said no to feeding apart from napping and night time. He is now finishing his cups. He disliked sippy cup as they don't clean very well and the milk would spoil faster.

Hi, e8080, Does your daughter get her milk servings? Mine doesn't seem to like milk. I tried milk with fat to no fat and no difference. How do you get her to drink her milk? We don't buy juice because of the sweetness and lack of freshness. I make fresh juice but only in the evening and he loves it. My other concern is teeth problems with drinking milk after bedtime, are concerned bout that too? With my daughter, first born, I was so much of a stickler . Thanks dear....

Thanks everyone. I don't want to force weaning and that is what I feel I am doing. He gets really pushy about it. I have tried different flavored in his cup milk but max he will take it is once, if he even finishes it. I have tried cuddling and letting him have a bottle but he doesn't like it. So hard. I have been trying to reduce the servings, I'll just keep at it. Thanks again.

Hi Brillkids Moms, My son just turned two and he still likes feeding. I allow him to do it right before nap time and sleeping time as it helps him sleep but he wants other times too. I have tried so hard to restrict those other times of feeding. I have milk for him in a sippy cup and ask him to finish that before he comes during those other times but he fusses so much. I do not budge even though my heart melts. If I allow, I always do it before he gets to extreme fussy stage or distract him and wait till he asks again as I don't want to encourage stubborn behavior. Did any one else have this problem, at what age do you draw a line? If you don't draw a line, do they stop eventually? I thought I'll stop when he is two as two is big but we're not there yet. When did you stop feeding? This is never a problem for us outside as he is too detracted then. He is not too clingy or sticky boy either so even that is not a problem. He is attached to dad and sister too. His diet is fine, he likes to eat meals with his big sister and snacks too with her. Big sister drinks milk in her cup all the time. I read to him and do cards with him and puzzles so it is not that we are lacking mommy and me time. Thanks so much!

Hi, everyone. Has anyone used this product? Rightbrainmusic.com. I contacted themnalso for more pictures to the app. I did try soft Mozart but my 4 year old had no motivation for memorizing any songs so we couldn't move on to learning music theory. She is taking piano classes now locally so I want to help her with music theory.
Any other recommendations also willl help
Thanks...

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Not working this time - 2 years of EL and very few signs of progress :(.

Hi.... You are doing a great job. I think at the end of the day be glad that you have time with him. Continuous learning and efforts are more important. My oldest was like your youngest. She at 2 did nt grasp anything. I started at 6 months. I went through so much math, reading, science slides. Always assuming she knew but knew underneath that she might not be grasping. Anyway, she is 4 and a 1/2 now and I think it was my continuous efforts that did it. I started with letter sounds at a little over 2. She learned basic reading. Then I added phonics rules. I did try Daddude's slides, showing her the doman way, few at time but she did not grasp them. Then, when she got 3, I pulled them out again but this time asked her to read them and helped her a lot. She can almost read now but still had hard time with bigger words. We have done starfall. She is good at math because I teach her abacus. She also knows science very well again due to good resources and constant efforts. But if compared to early learner s here, she might not scale well but among her peers she knows a lot. So good luck, you are doing a great job. I am sure your sons journey will get easier. Now, my youngest, uses the ipad for cards. I show him written cards also. At 2 he has a better grasp of letters. He doesn't read yet. I show him readingbear also. I showed him math, he doesn't like the slides anymore but watched till subtraction. I guess every kid is different. He loves mommy and him time. I think the guilt about not spending enough time with him than my first is compensated because Sis spends a lot of time with him. I tell her she is his teacher and mommy . She reads to him in the washroom and endlessly talks to him. He was an early walker and crawler while my oldest was a late walker....even then he grasped the slides more than she did. Regarding bribing, try stickers. If he sticks through the lesson, let him have one. Be stingy about stickers so they think they are gems! Please excuse my errors, I was in a hurry, too many chores to do before the kids get up. Good luck dear!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Baby pools and neck floats from China?
|

hi, i thought about getting the neck float when my baby was just born. But I didn't go for it. At that time, I would just fill the bath tub with low water and lie him straight in the water. He would enjoy it for a little while but was also a little terrified because sometimes the water would go on his face due to his big sis. Later, he started sitting up and then, he would never want to lay down.
Looking back, I should have tried the neck float. I recommend just getting the neck float and filling up your bathtub. The neck float on its own is only about 10 bucks. The bathtub is coming out too expensive on this site. You can always buy a big tub from home depot or even a plastic tube tub from walmart for 40 bucks. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks everyone! I will look into these. I feel a little better as I have not done as much spelling either. I keep hearing Sonlight too, I am really thinking about buying it. Eventhough, I cringe at the thought of how expensive it is. I want a set of books that I should read to my 4 year old so she develops good comprehension and writing skills. I am a strong believer, if I read good books to her, she will develop good writhing and better comprehension, with some work and time off course. I have a difficult time choosing books on my own. I want advanced books but our library has books that I feel she has outgrew now. I really want to just pull her up a level. English was always my weakest. I could write essays but I was never in Honors english . I really don't want that for them. Has anyone ever looked into easypeacyhomeschooling.com free curriculum. Any thoughts on that? Also, any homeschooling boards out there that you guys read?

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Why do wish for another baby?
|
on: April 27, 2013, 09:09:37 PM

I feel like saying "Ditto" to so many of these views except a few. We have two, one boy and one girl. I have always wanted three as I grew up with one brother and I always felt bored and wished I had one more sibling to play with. Somehow three I feel is the magic number. I just love babies. I think the first two years are the easiest. My youngest is 18 months, he is just getting over the baby stage. I will miss it tremendously. I still co-sleep with him and it is the most magical. My toddler at 4, is so much more work than him. I have to explain everything to her and I have less tolerance for when she makes a mess as oppose to when the baby does. So I wonder everyday, what it would be like to handle three. I do wish to homeschool them, so again I wonder how hard it is to homeschool three. My husband on the other hand, wouldn't mind 3 kids, only if the last one happens by accident. I had to take meds for the first two so the chances of us having another one without any meds is very rare. I wish it would happen though. One difficult thing with us, my husband works all the time, he cannot help with another kid. We had kids at the right time, when he did have some time. Now, I am essentially raising the two on my own, I feel. I don't mind, I try to be the best I can do for them with Gods Help. So that is the main reason, I leave it to fate and quite often wish too But wishes don't always come true.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Know of any strong Language Arts Curriculums

I am homeschooling my daughter. So far she is getting better at reading. I want a strong English curriculum for her. Would anybody know and have experience with any. I understand some parents make their own curriculum, that would not work for me especially with English. If anyone has suggestions. She is 4 years old right now.
Thanks,

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: multiplication tables

Hi, I have a great update too. My daughter who is almost 4 also is doing a great job with the Multiplication in Minutes. She loves the stories. Sometimes, she gets confused because the stories are similar but I have tried to go slow and make sure she knows each one and the distinction before moving further. We are starting 8 now. Thanks soo much everyone for the great ideas! I always dreaded teaching the multiplication tables. I thought it would be terrible, memorizing is! But it was soo easy with that, I would never have thought of it till Nadia and Manda encouraged. Super Thanks Looking forward to more great ideas. Nadia, if you have anywhere written down the things you do with Cammie, I would so appreciate it.
