Since YBCR is to borring for her. I suggest Monki see Monki do.. I have it for my 15 months old and I take it to the children's center I work at and up to the 4 years olds are glued to the TV..so get it. Any i would get a simple reading book with simple sentences and have her read that. You read the sentence and let her repeat after you. That's how I learned to read. I was reading at the age of 3...

My son is only 14 months old. I didn't use any books yet. When he starts reading i will get some. We just do the videos

While browsing youtube i stumbled upon wilbooks. They have videos(which i use for my 14 month old). They are brightly colored. The words are sizable.

I am a working mommy too and i only have a14 month old but this is how i do it.

Get the monki see monki do dvd's....because of the slide show...u can let them see the slide show and that's words...i have all three and my son loves it. I play the intro music to get his attention then go to the slide show and he is glued. I show him all three slide shows.

I was thinking of getting tweedlewink math lessons for him. That's how we will do math
And we did math songs addition and multiplication and we read..its been working..some children just need multimedia to make it exciting.

I came to america when i was 13 years old. I was suppose to be in the 8th grade and got skipped to the 9th grade. Let me tell you, i didn't have to study one day in high school. The stuff they was just touching on at my high school i have already done in elementary school.

With math, we start learning to count add etc in pre school. You start pre-school at 2.5 years of age. When you have math sessions we don't spend one year on a subject or a semester on on type of math. For that semester we cover all math. Algebra, geometry, arthimetic etc. And you have to actually know the work. You have to show how you got the answer. No calculators. and everything is open ended. I didn't know mutiple choice was until i got to this country......

My point is that everything in this country is about memorization and not understanding.

So i can't seem to keep my son out of the bookshelf. Today i realized that instead of looking at the books upside down like he usually does he fillied them rightside up. I looked at him do it twice. I was so proud of him!!!!!

Carcarte, that's fascinating, I had no idea about Trinidad and Tobago.

Do you recall how you were taught your math concepts?

We started with a song 1 + 1=2 and so on up to 12..they i remember using quantities like peas or seeds and the teach will put and equation on the board and let us work it out using the peas or seeds that we had. the multiplication was a song. we had to know the 2 times table...and we had to know up to the 12 times table by 3 grade!!!!!!!

I grew up in Trinidad and Tobago and by the time i was 3 years old i knew how to read, my letters and sounds,do math (addition multiplication etc) and spell alot of three letter words. In my country, if you come to kindergarten without knowing all of the above you get made fun of. The teachers also look at you as a "dunce"

I wanted to give my child the same advantage. While looking for resources i stumbled across the fact that i could start even earlier. I might send him to trinidad for his first year of school so he has to be prepared. 

Thanks for all the great input. We do alot of other things besides ABC and what i was afraid of is that he was getting bored. I have been working with him for a long time and if this infant learning thing holds true he knows alot of stuff. I have retired the ABC cards and we are doing word cards and a reading book I used when i was in preschool. We will read as usual but i will do more math with him. We count with his alphabet blocks.

i bought my some the mellisa and doug wooden knob puzzles with the shape but he is more interested in banging them together than putting them in their slots. Is that normal for his age. Am I expecting too much?

Thanks for the input.. We live by starfall. I have been doing starfall for him ever since have was in the womb..(..the stories). We ever did 26 weeks of a letter each week..
We have the fridge phonics that he likes to walk around with pressing the button to play the alphabet song....I think i will retired the cards. We have the Tag JR and the ABC book. Maybe i will make that a part of this reading package we do at night until he proves to me he can read.
