I've tried some speed reading programs from our local library.  They helped increase my speed but not so much comprehension or areas of grammar.  I do believe that experience in college courses etc. helps with those areas.

I have attempted to read at least 100 pages in 1/2 hour.  That is a good way to ensure the reading is up to speed.  Classical novels are a good place to ensure good practice.

Thanks for the introduction.  I wasn't that great of a reader by the time I entered college.  I hope that I can teach my own child rather than sloughing it off onto another teacher.  It would be a privilege to have my child read before the age of 2!

Right now my child is 18 months.  He is currently able to pick up names of sports teams off of people's shirts....its a start, but I am hoping he can read some actual words real soon .
