This is very useful because my son loves watching youtube videos lately. I haven't been concerned yet because I'm always nearby him when he plays the ipad and he only gets 20 minutes, but I'd like to start thinking about this. Plus, I need to make him an account to save his favorite ones too so that I don't have to search for them all the time.

I have a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old. Most of these are for my 2.5 year old, but my 1 year old plays with some of them.
Endless Alphabet - great for letters, phonics, language. Sign and Learn - sign language Tozzle - a good puzzle app Little Writer - Tracing Magic Fingers - classical music and special effects. It's good for fine motor skills and holds the interest of my 1 year old. Peekaboo Barn - mostly just fun, but teaches animals and sounds (also more for my 1 year old, but my 2.5 year old likes to help)

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Anyone Montessori? DIY Sandpaper Letters?

Hi All! I have a 2.5 year old and I'd like to start working more with him on letters. He can recognize his letters and can sing the alphabet, but I'd like to work on tracing. He's not a fan of painting or coloring.
I think I'm going to have him help me make some sandpaper letters. Does anyone know if there's a specific benefit of using sandpaper? I saw a DIY that uses glue and sand instead. I'm thinking the texture should still be nice. How do you start introducing tracing?
Thanks!

Hi! Just joined and I have two children. My son is almost two and I have a 12 week old daughter who has Down syndrome. We are playing with the little reader free trial on the iPad after seeing it recommended by other moms of children with Down syndrome. My daughter is still a little young, but my son loves it.
Edit: also wanted to add that my daughter also has a cleft palate so speech is a big concern for her pre and post palate surgery, which will be in about a year.
