EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: How to Help Your Child Learn to Read

Helping children to connect what they read to the world around them is a great way to keep them interested in learning. Aside from just reading I also have my students read particular subjects on Beestar to keep them interested in reading. For example I will change between topics and tie the reading material to the math material to help them learn more. Beestar does a great job keeping my students above the curve and I love that my students actually enjoy using the websites. I highly recommend Beestar as an extra resource and see how your child responds to the material.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Encyclopedic Knowledge / Re: Free resources

Another great free resource I came across when teaching my students was Beestar. I really like how my students have been able to pick up new math skills quickly after I switched to Beestar. One of them was struggling with learning his multiplication table for his upcoming tests and the worksheets gave him that incentive and confidence he needed. I think that there are a bunch of great resources now and it is important to make sure you know the strengths/weakness/learning style of your child to really help them. It has been said that there are 9 different areas of intellect and I think Beestar does a great job on touching all 9 areas with their current program.

RazKids is great for building the fundamental blocks for reading. My ESL students really learn from RazKids through the audios. However, I do agree that RazKids is less challenging compared to other websites I have used with my students. So far my favorite would have to be Beestar as they provide really great stories. My students are constantly challenged with the questions and it helps me as a teacher to see where their strengths/weaknesses are for reading comprehension.

Try out some workbooks like Spectrum or online websites like Beestar. Workbooks are great as they provide guidance on what used to be taught in the past. Beestar is great in that you can skip to different grades and keep her entertained. I would also look into the gifted and talented section as it looks like she may need more challenging questions in general. I would also start buying her books to read that she might be interested in ad have her start writing about what she reads to keep the momentum going.

I actually haven't heard of this website at all. How do you like it so far? A great online learning tool I've been using with my students (aside from the workbooks we have from Kumon and Singapore Math) is Beestar. The website offers great resources and the gifted and talented section has been a great supplement for my students that want to be placed in the GT classes. My students really enjoy the worksheets and I can monitor their work off-site which is a great addition.

This is the first time I've heard about using mandalas for increasing photographic memory. Definitely share with us how it is going! My first thought was using it for coloring that has been so popular lately in bookstores.
