Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Singaporeans & Malaysians!

I had the good fortune to sit in on a Shichida class once when back in Malaysia (supervising my friend's son, pretending to be his Aunt! ), and it was fascinating. Basically, a lot of rapid flashing, memory games, imagination exercises, and even ESP (ie., psychic intuition)! I too would love to hear more from parents whose children are in Shichida!

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Singaporeans & Malaysians!
|

Hi all fellow Singaporeans and Malaysians! I noticed seeing a few fellow Singaporeans and Malaysians in the Introduce Yourself board, so I was wondering how many of 'us' are there here? Strictly-speaking, I'm Singaporean, but I spent most of my life living in Malaysia, and even married one, so I have a strong affinity to both countries! Unfortunately, we now live in Shanghai, so I can't send my kid to Shichida - you all are so lucky!! Anyway, would be nice to get in touch with you all, so I can get a flavour of home now and again! Please respond here if you are a Singaporean or Malaysian, or if you're not one, feel free to post here too if you have anything that you'd like to ask one (me)!

^ I plucked up the courage to go to Japan just me and my 2 kids, no husband, no helper! It was tough, but we really bonded!

V What's your favorite holiday destination?

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Mac users

Aren't there Mac programs out there that can emulate Windows and run Windows programs?
I heard Mac has "boot camp" allowing you to boot into Windows mode, and there's also another third-party software that allows you to switch to Windows after having booted to the Mac OS.
That would seem the easiest solution!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Teaching your child to read - SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE!

Thanks for sharing that! I wish I had started my first child earlier. We only started it when he was about 3 years old, by which time he was used to doing other things and it was hard to get him to sit still for the flash cards. He liked the YBCR videos more, and he did manage to pick up many words from that. I just started him on Little Reader, and he really likes it - maybe he just likes computers more! I'll report on my progress again in a month's time!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Sign Language, Reading, Math, Anyone?

For my first kid, I did use GD flash cards, as well as the YBCR videos. Unfortunately, we left it a little late (when he was 3), and by that time he was more interested in doing other things rather than sit through flash cards. The YBCR videos got his attention more, and he did learn many words because of it, but after finishing the videos he got bored with them as they were the same thing over and over again.
I'm really glad you guys have made Little Reader, because I can customise it so much and download more and more content. I hope there's always new content coming!!
And this time, I will make sure I start my second child earlier, cos I think before they learn how to walk, run, etc. they would have far less to entertain themselves with and so would be much more receptive!
