EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Little Reader books for almost 6 year old

Hi Olufunmike,
Knowing this is an older post I figured I would reply. One resource I have used for my 5 year old is actually a project I'm working on with a Non-Profit named Learning Stewards. Link is in my signature. Try the Vocabulary Assessment and the Letterscope. It is an engaging, audio and visual based learning that might engage better right now for your child.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: 3 Basic Principles of Deeply Effective Phonics Teaching

Hi Vvanessa,
Great info. I love your 3 points of interest in the progress of our young readers. #2 is so crucial. Learning to read can be very trying for some children and when confronted with any negativity can have a devastating effect on their learning trajectories. "Mind-shame" as it has been called is one of the main talking points of a project called the Children of the Code by Mr. David Boulton.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: First Step To Teach A Child To Read

I agree that early childhood is a crucial time to start the habit of learning to read. Great tips. On the program, speaking from experience, not every child learns to read the same way. I have seen so many children taught in a single theory of learning to literacy but not every child fits that mold. Research is DEFINITELY recommended. Know your child, and where they struggle then finds a program that fits. "Children are made readers on the laps of their parents" (love that quote).
