EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Raising kids with a Non-Native Language

Hello, I'm Hungarian, and I do speak English as well. When I was pregnant I was singing English songs during the way to work. He remembers those songs later When my son was a little baby I was reading or telling fairy tales to him, sing songs, and say rhymes. Since his age of one, we watch the power points you can find on this site, we "play" songs, and rhymes. Evening tales can be Englisg or Hungarian. The idea to teach him English is easier, than do it. When we go somewhere, I don't speak English to him, just at home. My mom speaks English very well - better than I do - she also speaks sometimes English to him. Maybe he won't be a real bilingual child, but English is not a foreing language for him. My son do understands both languages, if he wants and non of them, if he doesn't want, so I don't know yet how succesfull I am I ofter hear at the playgurond, that moms speak both languages to their children: the native and the non native as well.

Dear Chloe and Margaret, congratulations both of you!
Injured children can learn much more, than peolpe usually think! It is not the same, but also a succes story: I was reading a story of a hungarian family: they have two children, and the second girl has down syndrome. But both children were house-trained when they were 2-3 months!! old. They only use pants during the night. Mom used a method that she was reading about an indian tribe, how they did do it, and it worked with the down syndrome baby as well.

Hi, My son prefers what I eat: when I think it is not ok for him, I eat, when he sleeps... I cook him a lot of vegetables: carrot, potato, tomato, egg plant, lettuce, beetroot, pumpkin, gourd, etc. He likes when I put little spices as well. Cooked vegetable(s) with pasta, and a little chicken always ok for him. Or spinach with little garlic, salt and an egg. First I cook the spinach with little salt and olive oil, then cool it a little bit, mix with the garlic, boil again with the egg. I heard, that children rarely like it:my son does...

Hi, my son loves the pumpkin. It is his favourite food. I put it to the oven with potato and meat or liver, and when all is ready /30-50 minutes/ I mix it. It is healthy - full of vitamine D, and delicious But he also loves courgette dish: I cut the courgette (a little, young one) into cubes, and boil it in water, with a very little salt and a coffeespoon olive oil. When it is ready, pour almost the whole water out, and I press the cubes with fork. I put a teaspoon sour cream and cheese. When the cheese dissolved /2-3 minutes/, it is ready. Bon Apetite
