1  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: YBCR Success!!! on: September 29, 2009, 05:10:40 PM
Hi ,

I started YBCR when my twin babies were 4 months old , now they are 8 months completed , just before a month my daughter could put her arms up and down when we say that to her , and today to our surprise we saw her clapping hands when I recited the rhyme "if you r happy ......", we where so excited and I thought of posting it here today , but the thread was already started when I logged in ..(gud coincidence....)...
though my son is not able to do the action he smiles and giggles when we say "arms up " , "clap", ...expecting him to do it very soon with lot of hope am teaching him.....

tatooedmommy :

"great news"...its really good to see when babies do something what we teach them ....I understand how happy u would be....keep up the good work with your daughter....

2  Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: How do you put your baby to sleep? on: August 06, 2009, 07:42:32 PM
Hi Questers,

I started with the sleep time routine from when my babies were about 3 months , I have seen many moms finding it hard to put their babies to sleep even when they are grown up ( 2 years +) so I thought its better to start with some bedtimeroutine so that I need not go through the sleepless nights with 2 babies(I was not ready for that coz already I was not sleeping for the first 2 - 3 months)...went through few websites and took few things which were possible for me....

*I massage them with baby lotion after 10 or 15 mins of their feed(not regularly ..alternate days)
*wear them their diapers and their night dress....
*wrap them in a cotton cloth (not very tightly....ensure that they dont get out of the cloth --just to keep them warm in the Airconditioned room )
*turn on the dim lights
*read a story book with bright pictures
*teach them to do their prayers , read out the Holy Bible (few verses) .
*turn off the dim lights and on the night lamp...
*sing a melodious song to them (My daughter just loves the devotional songs which I sing)

Initially I had difficult time to bring this in practice , but I didnt lose hope ...did the process continuously for 2 weeks later they started enjoying the process...

IST 8 or 8.30 pm I start the process within 20 to 30 mins they go to sleep peacefully , I dont feed them or cradle or swadle them ....Infact my baby boy gives some sought of noises when the time exceeds and the routine if not started and is very uncomfortable.....when I start the routine he becomes comfortable and has a charming smile in his face...

Consistency is key here...

this link may help for some ideas....

Hi Shashimani,

Welcome to the forum.....I have been effectively using this website for the past 3 months I have twin babies who are 6 months and 2 weeks currently , I started with doman reading program before 2 months and have completed about 150+ words with my babies just before a month I have started with Doman maths using ppt ....also I show them YBCR videos I have completed the starter DVD and now going on with Volume 1 , I have not yet bought LR or LM its slightly in a higher budget now so will wait for sometime ...hopefully looking for some cost reduction....but then I make my own picture cards since in India those are available in an affordable cost...am also in process of gathering info for Doman Encyclopedic knowledge couple of month to go to start with....

both my babies are very interested in the word flash cards , they get really excited when I add new cards , sometimes I dont flash cards for 2 or 3days due to some personal family work etc...so on the day when I flash them the cards they will be very very eager for every session and infact keen for more such sessions even when they get the break for a day or 2 they dont seem to be disinterested ....their interests motivates me a lot in doing many more teaching things for them....I try to surf the net for more info on a daily basis ...

For all these I would say this website had been a key resource ...this will  take you to many links of your destination.......try to use this website effectively for any info for your baby ...

apart from all the above I also teach them classical music...try to do a lot of reading to them wenever possible , sing songs, recite rhymes, play games etc.....

most of the ideas I get from the forum members by posting queries...you have actually reached a right place for your babies needs(be it anything)...

Hope this was helpful...

Preethi

Hi Everyone,

I have just started implementing the educating methods with my twin babies....both are very much interested in the word flash cards I flash 5 sets 3X a day but not very regularly(I meant the no of times - 1 or 2 times a day)
I also do YBCR twice a day during their feeding time...I have not yet purchased LR and LM...no plans for sometime...
I have the math dot cards ready to be started in a couple of weeks ...and also in process of gathering info for EK(to be implemented after a month).........so I think I will be in the same boat after a month ....thanks to the starter of the thread ..coz am getting many ideas from many experienced moms "Karma to them"....

Hi Friends,

oops! really sorry for the delayed reply....

@Skylark

that was a very clear explanation which was really helpful , initailly when my gynaecologists suggested me to intorduce raw juice i was not convinced so i surfed and the end result was 95% NO to juices at this stage (even my pediatrician said the same) so now after getting info from experienced am even more convinced ....

I tried to download few files from your uploads but I was unable to do ...it had some .LMTP extension how do I download these files can you help....

yup our babies are around the same age ..for them I have just started with the GD reading program ...how about your experience in teaching ...

@Questers

nope ...they are fraternal twins boy and a girl (Alwin and Ashley are their names)..practically speaking ...things arnd are not easy managing them alone...but they are sweet blessings from the lord Almighty so strength and might comes from Him.....am also inspired by many moms in this forum to be specific its momtomany a particular member in the forum ....

thanks Nikolett for ur suggestion.

Hi All,

@Questers & Shaman
Thanks much for the valuable and detailed reply ..I have sucessfully started with the reading program ...its going on well both of them seem to be interested in the word flash card....
1.Questers I feel that 5 sets (with 5 words)for a day is a little too high number for the babies(its my personal opinion pls correct me if iam wrong)can I flash them in small numbers initially....?

2.do we have to show them the retired cards...if so when it can be flashed again..?

3.Regarding LR.... I have not yet bought it.....after getting to know more abt it probably I would give a try ....any idea abt the indian cost (LR and LM)..?

Hey Shaman ..am presently in India so cannot even think about buying the Doman math card from IAHP immediately...(well I need to wait for a very long time for someone to visit India), from all your experiences I feel that LR and LM are making wonders so will try to get it somehow...

as far math dot cards are concerned I will go with Questers (making powerpointpresentations....)...

Hi Radhika (thi_pappu)...gr8 to c u in this forum..I understand from your msg that you live in Chennai , even I stay in chennai...al the best to you too...

Thanks& Regards,

Hi All,

Questers,

Thanks much for the detailed description on the reading method , I would also be happy to get to know about the GD dot method any specific guidelines on your sucess with this method .

Math sems to be a lil confusing when I went thru few websites , I have started to prepare the math dot card but got struck inbetween coz of the decrease in size of the dots since the quantity increases, can somebody guide me here , is there any specific size for the board paper (am using size equals A4 + 1/4 th of A4), can I fit in dots till 100 in the same sized board paper....valuable suggestions required.....

Regarding the reading method i have few doubts to be cleared....

1. do I have to flash cards on basis of categories ? (read from GD that we have EK where we can introduce categories....)

2.Presently I have prepared about 400+ word cards (which would interest my babies) is this enough to begin with.....

3. when can I start with math and  EK....(yet to start with reading)

4.Can I combine the  YBCR along while I flash cards....

5.When can I introduce couplets...

thanks in advance for the valuable suggestions..

Preethi
