LDSmom - thanks for the encouragement and sharing your story.
fma001 - good idea, but customizing LR just doesn't fit into my schedule right now, with having a 3 month old, too. Perhaps when he is a little older I can spend more time doing that and re-spark an interest for my toddler. thanks for your input.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Can you miss an opportunity to teach?

Is it possible to have missed a window of opportunity/interest with regards toearly learning and reading? I began YBCR with my dd when she turned 13 months old. By the time she was 15 months she could sight read approx. 20 words. I was very excited and she seemed to love both the dvds and the flashcards. Then I became pregnant. I am one of those rare women who get hyperemesis gravidarum throughout the whole duration, often requiring hospitalization, and battle with constant sickness, dehydration and extreme fatigue. So basically I gave up teaching her to read because I didn't have the health or energy.
Fast forward to now, she is 25 1/2 months and I started 6 weeks ago with LR. I am discouraged because it seems she hasn't any interest. She may tolerate some of the multisensory photos and videos, but she exhibits zero interest in the actual words on the screen and often walks away. We are now in the part of the curriulum where phonics are being taught, but I don't know if I should continue because she doesn't seem to be paying attention.
1. Should I continue on and trust that she is somehow absorbing this? or wait and try again later? 2. Did I miss an open window of interest when i stopped last year? Perhaps this has something to do with right brain/left brain stuff. Honestly I don't know. I am stumped.

She has heard that Doman causes Autism, Eye problems, early Dementia, and a few other things. Early dementia? Are any of the Doman kids even old enough to have made a proper study and assessment of this? Hang in there khatty. Your friend doesn't realize how much her comments hurt you.

EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: Is Cursive Writing Important?

I am just curious, because I am from a generation that writes in cursive, but how do people write their signatures if they don't handwrite in cursive? Do you really just print your name when signing contracts? Do young authors, celebs and athletes print their autographs on memorablia and books?

Thank you all for your suggestions. Being able to help my dd express and identify her feelings will not only be beneficial for her in dealing with her new brother, but also will help her and me now that she is closer to the age of two.

Hey everyone,
I'm not sure if this was posted here at BK, I haven't seen it. RBK released the final installment of TW dvds today. That is volumes 10 -12. Also they are offering a $10.00 off each dvd special today.
I did try to use a a forum shop coupon in conjunction with this offer, but it didn't work. I guess they are only accepting one coupon code at a time.
Sorry if this was already announced. Happy teaching!

Thank you both. I will look in to the Ikea table. Nikki (sp)?, I agree with you about the plastics. However dh is more concerned with practicality and longevity when making purchases. So I often must compromise or just choose to fight another battle at a later time

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / toddler table and chairs decision

I would like to get a table and chair set for my 21 month old. I initially was thinking that a wood set would be the "greener" choice, but now I wonder if a plastic set would be a better choice for cleaning crayons and food. What would you suggest? Also, my dd is on the shorter side. I want a comfotable chair for her, but one that will still work for a couple of years.
Thank you all for your help in advance.

Parents' Lounge / General Pregnancy / Re: early signs of pregnancy while breast feeding

I was still breastfeeding dd when I discovered I was pregnant. A few days before my expected period I began to experience strong cramping. I thought that was a sign of my impending cycle. But when my period didn't come and the cramping continued for about a week later, I realized that I was pregnant and the nursing was causing small contractions. They did finally go away a week or two later. So I continued to nurse dd until I was about 5 1/2 months pregnant ( she was 18 months). Eventhough I was no longer contracting, my nipples were so tender and sore that the experience became too painful. I was really sad because I wanted to nurse her until she was 2 and I had always enjoyed our time together.

My 10 month old does not like water. She drinks very little. She has a very small appetite. She does eat a wide variety, but only in small quantities and still breastfeeds. So when it comes to water she shows no interest. Should I be worried? I know that breastmilk has water in it but should she be getting more? How much water do you little ones drink?
