EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Jones Genius Update

Hi, everyone! I am about to get the Early Learning course from the Jones Geniuses and I was wondering what your experiences are with the reading program they offer. My daughter is 19 mos and has just finished Little Reader. Because she tired of Little Math after the first semester, I want to start with another math program, and at the same time I'd like her to make progress with her reading as well. Would any of you suggest their program as a continuation of LR/LM?
Cheers, Olivia

The BrillKids Forum / BrillKids Announcements / Re: Traditional Chinese Curriculum Add-On Pack for Little Reader - Now Available!

Hi everyone, I have a question: I want to buy the simplified Chinese language pack, but since it is a language which is totally foreign to me, will it work to just let the program flash itself on automatic? When using the English version I use the pointer a lot, but have no idea how this works with Mandarin. I don't even know how you read characters (right to left, left to right, or top to bottom). Any info from native Mandarin speakers on how or whether to use the pointer would be appreciated. Thanks!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: My daughter can't read yet... we're doing the program now since 7 months...

Hi! Brillkids suggests you do the program at least twice per day. Doman insists on flashing the words faithfully three times a day as children learn through repetition. With my daughter I try doing session one, then session two, and if I have time, flashing either session so she sees the words a third time. My daughter only started reading very recently after I almost gave up. Good luck with your little one and don't give up! It's totally worth it. Hope this helps.
Cheers

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / question about story time on Little Reader
|

Hi everyone! I need some help. My daughter has been doing LM and LR since she was 4 mos. She is now 14 months and we are reaching the end of the program. Recently, Little Reader started with a "Story Time" item. I don't know if anyone else has run into my same dilema. Should I use the pointer all the time or is my daughter capable of sight reading sentences this long? Up until now when I use the pointer I have to turn the volume down and read it out loud myself, as the pointing can't keep up with the recorded voices. The thing is, when I read and try to point at the same time, it's a rather slow process and doesn't sound natural like when one is just reading out loud. It's hard to test my daughter as she is very young and doesn't fully speak, and thus I can't tell if she really gets the whole story thing or not. She watches very happily but I have no way of knowing.
Any comments are welcome. Thank you all.

At 5 mos my daughter refused to look at math dots. That was when I bought Little Math and she totally loved it. Now she's 10 mos and has tired of LM as well, except when I do it in Chinese for some reason. She finds it fascinating and will sit still glued to the screen with a smile on her face. I guess it's all about giving them variety.
