EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Re: To homeschool or not to homeschool

Hi, I havent been on this site for over a year, but I have also worked a lot with my youngest, as you have.
Anyways, I have 3 girls and after attending the CHild Brian Development Workshop, at the Institute for Achievement of Human Potential (founder Glenn Doman), twice for a week each time, over two years; and after reading "Weapons of Mass Instruction" by John Gatto I seriously began to consider homeschooling.
Not because the schools were doing anything wrong per se; or because the kids werent having a great time there; but simply because they learn so much from their parent, from 1 on 1, and can move around and explore more, and explore anything they want. Also, you can focus on what you believe is important vs what Govt thinks is important so your child will be a good worker bee for a giant corporation!
I took the giant leap in September; and to be honest, this year is an experiment. But, so far so good. We are done lessons by noon; the afternoon is open to music, art, exercise, what they want to learn/play (no TV unless a documentary) until 3pm. We have lots of time for violin and piano this way; and exercise is taken care of b/w 8am and 3pm, freeing up way more time for them to play. Plus most homeschoolers are finished school about 6-9 weeks ahead of the public school (usually done by early May)
Anyways, what I really wanted to say is, if you are on the fence this book, "Weapons of Mass Instruction" by John Gatto, is A MUST READ. It will put into perspective what you already are feeling intuitively about public schooling. John Gatto was a superior school teacher, who taught in NY for 30 years and was awarded Teacher of the Year, the year he quit.
Hope this helps.
If you want anymore specifics just message me. Fort Nelson, Canada, Mom

I am in the North East corner of BC, Fort Nelson. I would like to talk with other Mom's using Brillkids or Glenn Doman's teachings. I attended the "How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence" Course, by Doman's , in Philadelphia, at the Institute for Achievement of Human Potential (IAHP). Great course, more info at www.iahp.org

I have not read the ebook yet in full, however, I want to continue with Doman's red dot method using Little Math. I thought I saw a bunch of downloads on line here about that, but I dont know where they are now, and how exactly to do this. I would like the #'s to be shown in a random order too. Can you help? EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Anyone get results from Doman Math Method?

I am on week 2 or so of the dot method, we are up to 9 sessions per day, two dots sessions and an equation session. However, I just realized a few days ago that ALL sessions should be at least 15 mins apart, and I had been doing 3 sessions at a time back to back, 3x per day instead.
Is this a problem? Should I have started over? Also I cant tell whether she is really getting it or not....is there a point where you start all over and try again? She has already learned to read with YBCR, (b/w15 months& 24months) but I feel I am under the gun now to achieve quantitative Perception...she is 26 months.
Help!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: YBCR Success!!!

Yes! I had absolute success with YBCR. My mother-in-law told me about it after she saw it on an infomertial. I went to the website and was convinced quickly to try it. I started my daughter on it at 15 months old. We did one dvd faithfully for 6.5 months. I introduced no flash/word cards as she just crumpled them at the start. We took 4 months off over the summer. She then turned 2 yrs and I introduced the word cards. She got 4 the first night, 8 the next day, 13 later that week and 30 by the end of the month. She is upto 50 words now and going strong. I was so amazed and thrilled, and it has sent me on ths incredible learning journey with her leading me to all of this information on right-brained research and early learning, and Glenn Doman, Brillkids, Tweedlewink....I just wish I had known about all of this for my first two daughters!!!! I am planning on continuing her progress with Brillkids Little Reader & Little Math. I am really impressed with this website.

HI I am overwhelmed with the wealth of information on the internet abut early learning.
I tried “Your Baby Can Read” with my 15 month old, and had such great success, I am eager to move onto Math. I have just ordered the book on Math from Glenn Doman, and have started with the Math Dots. I am wondering if I need Tweedlewink or Brill Kids Math or Reading. (I am currently using the 14 day trial for Brill Kids). My youngest is 2 yrs & 2 months old. (Her siblings are 5 yrs, and 6.5 yrs) HELP! Diane
