EARLY LEARNING / Homeschooling / Liberty Kids DVD set
|

I just purchased Liberty Kids DVD set at Walmart for $5. Many homeschoolers and EL parents have recommended this for learning about the American Revolution. It is 40 episodes and 4 DVDs. It is no longer available from their website so I guess it is discontinued.

We just joined our local library's 1000 books before kindergarten. after each 100 books a small gift is given and tickets to win prizes are given. I am told after each 100 the gifts get better, like going from stickers to small games and stuffed animals. It ends with a book, tee shirt, and awards ceremony at the library. Our new town has a fantastic new library!
I am sure we will be done with the 1000 well before Kindergarten!

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: DS might be a lefty

I am glad someone else experienced this. Being left handed is certainly not the end of the world but a few things are more difficult. Hubby loves to work on cars and with wood so having a lefty son adds some safety concerns for the use of tools. Maybe he will be a lefty or maybe not, he will let us know.
thanks, ty

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / DS might be a lefty

We just purchased our IPad and it taught me that our DS (almost 3) might be left handed. I noticed that he only uses his left finger to trace letters. After noticing that I started watching which hand he uses for tasks. I put his spoon centered in front of him and he used his right hand. Because I thought he was right handed he has fed himself with his right hand. I tried having him use his left hand but he switched to the right hand on his own. He alternates hands for everything else so far. So for a fine motor skill like tracing he ONLY used his left finger, this is the only exclusive left handed task I have observed so far Any thoughts?
Thanks, TY

Korale4kq, Did you use a specific app for speak therapy? I understand our son (almost 3) most of the time but others do not. I need to encourage him to announciate properly. I know he hears what I say but he does not repeat it very well. I will discuss this with his Doc at his 3 year appointment also. BTW: we do not have an Ipad yet but these threads convince me it is time to invest in one soon. Thanks, TY

Wolfwind, My son did something similar. We were looking at a puzzle that had O for octopus and my son remarked that the octopus had eight legs. I asked him who told him that and he said I told him. After more prompting he told me that octo meant eight just like the stop sign has eight sides. He really listens to me at least sometimes!
Now if he would only listen about climbing, knocking Dad's chair over, squeezing out toothpaste and dumping laundry detergent in the washing machine. BTW these things all happened while I tired to clean the shower this morning.

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: suggestions welcome

I started using the downloads, you will be able to find something that interests your DD. DS loves the musical instruments, animals and all things to do with vehicles. Once I was able to get him interested I said that he had to do a LR lesson before I could open the particular download he wanted .He loves the game option also. BTW he is 2.5 and a very active child, we do not sit still during lessons either. Anyone watching me would think I am crazy but whatever works I will do. Good luck!
