What commercially available books have large print like the Maisy books and things like trucks, diggers or tractors in them for a boy to read?

So if I continue with whole word reading will muddling b, d and p sort itself out?

I have a two year old who I have been showing whole words to and numbers and numbers of dots using a computer programme for a year and he has just about sorted reading numbers 1-9 but he struggles with letters a b and d and gets them muddled up does anyone have any ideas on how to sort this out? We have some phonics flash cards large foam letters and I sometimes write letters in play dough but I have a limited income so I need cheap ideas. He only can say about 30 words and not all of the letter sounds so he may be muddled up with even more letters I don't know.

I have been using this CBeebies Fun with Phonics Letters and sounds DVD with my son who I have been showing whole words to for a year but showed no signs of reading. It shows each letters in lower case, animates the letters and repeats the letter sounds and shows video clips which uses images to do with the letter sound that they are teaching. It also come with a poster for the letters used. I bought it at www.Amazon.co.uk I also bought Fun with Phonics reading where it show some words and sounds out each letter but this does not keep my 23month olds attention. Fun with Phonics reading comes with a few reading books.

Yes that is very helpful. I would still like to buy Tweedlewink dvds second hand if anyone has them.

You can only install it on one computer. I have been using it for between 6 months and a year I am not sure. Now my son is 22 months and he is just starting to get bored with it probably because I have have not had enough time to load more photos on it. You can put as little or as much time as you want into writing lessons I would do it each evening after my son had gone to bed it takes longer to write the lessons than just to play them as you would do with little reader and little math. You can not choose to show words consecutively in couplets you would have to open and close saved lesson plans. You can save a long text as a lesson plan and it will show all of it at once on the screen or you do one click and it will show it as consecutive words. When my son points to letters of words he always starts at the right and works left but it is too soon to know if he is reading backwards of something.

Do TweedleWink dvds work in the UK? If so I would like to buy some.

I have used the Genius maker programme for several months now because I can not afford little reader and little math. You have to write your own words in, using Genius maker, to flash words up but it has spell check. You can upload photographs in to the encyclopaedic knowlege section and the title of the file appears on the same page under the picture. When you flash words up a poor quality voice reads out the word for you or you can easily turn off the voice and say the word yourself instead. A wizard small comes up to congratulate the child after each lesson. In the math section coloured dots come up and you can choose the size and colour of the dots. It also has a calculator so you can easily write up equasions with out being good at math yourself. You can buy the encyclopaedic knowledge section but it only has a few pictures on it and a few shapes so my son has learnt to recognise a star at 22months but he does not speak very well yet so I don't know if he can read yet I suspect not though. I probably flashed up too many different words instead of repeating the few over and over.
