EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: My 22 month old doesn't show me that she can recognise words after using LR

Perhaps you should try to entice your child with books of her favorite topics, whatever that might be. She will want to know what the words say, and then you can hold back on reading them yourself to motivate her to do it. I feel that she probably can read, she is just not showing it and that it will come all of a sudden, the same way some kids are late speaking, then do it in full sentences. It must be frustrating, but switching gear and trying something different (approach or program) will help keep you sane and will help her as well. EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: Possibly My New Favorite Full Math Program - Even in French
|

Thank you for alerting us to this very interesting program (love the fact that it is also in French since we are bilingual). I added it to my links to try 'just in case' we would hit a snag along the way. No matter which program you choose, and especially when a child is cognitively well ahead of his age, you will have to make adaptations and use manipulatives for young children, so they get the concepts. You CAN teach 1st grade math to a two year old, but you cannot ask questions as if you were talking to a six year old. You should also adjust your expectations regarding how your child will answer: a child younger than two or two and a half might do better by pointing between two choices, for instance. Even with an older child, I think it is important to present the same information in more than one way, so I would not use only one program, no matter how good it is. Dear Rivi, I am Vicent Peris, responsible for Babybit's customer service. First of all, let me tell you that we are really very sorry that you feel disregarded and that we understand you feel angry since a 4 weeks delay is really too much. But we would also like to clear things up: We answered your first email whith your shipment post code, so you don't have to belive us, you can confirm that the shipment has been sent (look it up at USPS: http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm). Your third email was sent four days ago and it saddly happens that it is Easter holidays in Spain and our offices have been closed from the 21st to today (included!). We have already answered to your private email some hours ago. It is indeed true that there are custom problems with shipments sent from Europe to the USA. But let me tell you that shipments to other countries work fine and do not take longer than two weeks at the most. As I have said at the beginning, we agree with you that it is too long a time to keep you waiting, so we will send your money back as soon as paypal allows us (when your complaint is closed). Sending another DVD would be of no use since the problem is at USA's customs and we can not do anything about that. Anyway, we are completely sure you will receive our DVD (though late). We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Vicent Peris, www.babybit.comthank you for responding. I have closed the paypal dispute and changed it to a claim, which I will close when I get a refund.

Hi Kizudo and Teachingmytoddlers,
thank you for your suggestions. I would have called them if there was a phone number on the website, and I will check ebay. About YBCR French, I am aware of it (and did get it earlier). However, it is not an immersion program, it is English/French together, and for a native French speaker (myself and hopefully my little one soon), it just doesn't cut it. I will provide an update if and when this is all resolved.
If I really can't get babybit, I think I will fall back on little Pim.
Best regards,

Hi Everyone,
Over a month ago, since LR still hasn't come up with the French program,I ordered one volume of babybit in French directly from France. We are 4 weeks later, and I still didn't receive it. I contacted the company 3 times. The first time, they said it was stuck in US customs, but I don't know if I should believe it because I order other things from foreign countries, and it doesn't take that long. My second query remained unanswered. In my 3rd query (still unanswered), I asked my card to be refunded or them to send another one. I am really upset about this, because I really want to start the French program and I don't think thaty any company with such poor customer service should stay in business. I am planning to contest the charge on my card asap, and I wish there was a recourse like the BBB in France.
1. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the company (phone number) 2. Does anyone have another source for the program in French, even second hand?
thank you,
Carole

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Commercial availability of LR Deluxe Flashcards?

Hi Natalie,
you do not have to download the other flashcards. You can print them from the material that is already on your LR program. What you do is click on "advanced play/edit">then highlight an individual lesson> then print. At that point you will see all the options for printing. First "check all" the words so all of them will be printed. For pattern phonics lessons, I choose "half sheets: either option", "4 words per sheet", half display mode (this will highlight seperate syllables) and I add a title page. For regular lessons, I use the same settings except "half sheets: words and pictures separate" " 4 words prints" and "4 picture prints". Hopefully, this doesn't sound too confusing, but even if it does, it will become obvious as you play with the settings.

Hi Ariel,
thank you for your response. May I ask how you decided on Montessori versus other school choice? I am not sold on the method myself, but still willing to consider it.
