Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Child Friendly Recipes
|

Not sure if a thread already exists on this topic, but I would love to have place to find child friendly recipes. Healthy foods that your children like, perhaps that kids can help make. My kids favorite is home made pizza. Everyone makes their one with all the toppings that they love. I like this dough recipe because there is no need to wait for it to rise.
Ingredients
* 3 cups all-purpose flour * 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast * 2 tablespoons vegetable oil * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 tablespoon white sugar * 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
Directions
1. Combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Mix in oil and warm water. Spread out on a large pizza pan. Top as desired. 2. Bake at 375 degrees C (190 degrees C) for 20 to 25 minutes.

I know my pediatrician recommended single grain cereals first. Rice then barley then oatmeal then mixed grains later. You can mix the cereal with breast milk or formula and make it super watery at first. Good Luck!

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: How do you treat colds and other viruses

I agree with the hands washing! I also just make sure my family's immune system is as strong as possible. Eat lots of fruits and veggies and drink plenty of O.J., exercise and get plenty of sleep. Every thing that we would do all the time but I am just extra careful about it during cold and flu season.

eew!!! moldy-ness is nasty! The mold on the bread can be toxic, but if you are not sick yet you should be fine. usually mold that is ingested won't harm you as much as mold that is inhaled. Stomach acid is pretty powerful stuff. Still, if you want to be safest you should consider calling the poison control hotline or your family doctor.

Motherosette, i suggest you invest in the most comfortable bra you can find. Other than that, just make sure you are drinking lots and eating healthy. Weight gain during pregnancy is very normal as is discomfort. It will all be worth it as soon as you meet your little blessing! congrats and good luck!

My 10 month old has already been for her first dentist visit. She has 7 teeth. The dentist said that getting them in early is fine because it gives them a chance to get used to every thing before they actually have a problem.

Parents' Lounge / Introduce Yourself / Re: Nervous Mum to Be

My advice to a new mommy is to just relax, make only the decisions you need to make right now and let the rest take care of it's self. If you stress to much it will put a stress on your relationship with your baby. all you need to figure out right now is where you will give birth and who you want to be there. Once you get that all set up you can have time to take care of yourself for you and your new baby.
Good luck! and congrats!

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Kids & pets?

Ok, here's one for you all.
Do your kids have pets? What kind? How old were your kids when they got their pets?
I was thinking about getting a pet but I wanted to weigh the pros and cons and other people's opinions first.
So, what do you think?

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: What Skills Do You Want Your Children to Have?
|
on: July 27, 2010, 06:32:08 PM

I would like my children to know basic things as well, self reliance, work ethic, self defense, keeping house, cooking, basic mechanics, self discipline, etc...
But I would also like them to learn a trade to fall back on. I know that college education is desirable, but if they don't have real advanced skills in at least one area they might be in for a hard time later looking for a job. I would like them, for at least a year, to pick something they like doing and just do that, learning everything they can about it for a year, and then go get a job doing whatever.

I am pregnant now and I see my chiropractor every week, sometimes twice a week. He is my hero! My hips are getting very loose and whenever I sit/lay in the same position for to long they tend to go out or start to hurt really bad. Sleeping with a pillow between your legs should help. I use a foam pillow because it is more supportive.
Hope you start feeling better!
