EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: How do you teach an active child?

You have gotten lots of good thoughts. I would only add that my son is also active, and I found my best luck with videos was right after he woke up (more receptive and quiet), as I was feeding him. He had to be strapped in the high chair, anyway, so why not put on the video as he was fed? He was initially captured only by the music but eventually watched the whole thing. Also agree with what they are saying, follow what he seems to be into!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Learning lowercase letters

Hello! My 18 month old has finished the YBCR series and learned lots of spoken words from it, also seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately he did not learn to read (doesn't look at the words). So we tried the Letter Factory by Leapfrog, which is working great for us--he is learning all his uppercase letter sounds rapidly and really likes it. Now I am wondering if there is anything that would focus on lowercase letters or a next step that has worked well for others? Thanks in advance, I always get great info from the dedicated parents here! Jennifer

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Looking for computer games for 18 month old

Hi! My almost 2 year old son LOVES the computer, and I think he would enjoy some sort of interactive/learning game where he could "push the buttons." A friend said her kids had some sort of computer learning tool with a child-friendly mouse that her kids used at this age. Unfortunately that was some 12+ years ago and she doesn't remember the brand. I have found online the Leapster stuff--anyone like it? However it seems geared to age 4 and older. Anyone have experience with something like this for a 2 year old??
Thanks!!!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Not sure if reading/memorizing words yet...

Hello, I apologize if this issue has been covered, still trying to figure out how to research topics on this forum.
My son started the YBCR program at about 8 months of age, and has watched the videos pretty faithfully, he seemed to enjoy they shows, I could never get him interested in the flashcards, however. He has been through the whole program, watching 1-2 months or more for each show and reviewing them. Now he is going on a year and 2 months of age, and doesn't seem to recognize words. He has learned lots from the show in terms of learning the names of animals, etc, but I don't know about any word memorization. Of course it is difficult to "test," as he just won't pay any attention to the flashcards.
We are a bilingual household, and he seems to be intelligent and picking up both languages well as well as loves having books read to him. I do notice there is a point with reading books where he has had enough of a book and sort of acts bored with it--if I quiz him by pointing out stuff in the book (where is the giraffe?) he will know it all at that point. I have also noticed that he got bored with the videos at a point. Also he does not look at the words much or very long--maybe doesn't have interest in them? Or learning without showing it? Is there something else I should try or another program you think would be better suited to him?
Thanks in advance for your time and experiences
