1  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Never had any luck with having him learn to read, but ..... on: November 18, 2011, 04:40:37 AM
Just curious about how many success stories are really out there using this product.  I bought both the little reader and little math, and my tiny tot enjoyed them, but Ii'm the one who was not very consistent so we parked it for awhile.  I would say we used it for 4 months straight when he was 12 months old.
Now, here is my question?  Did this type of learning excel him for where he is today?   We did this at 12 months - 15 months.  by 15 month he knew all his sounds of the alphabet, and his letter names, and numbers.  Even though we didn't follow through with the program he picks up things really quickly now... usually just show him once and he's got it.   Now that he has an old computer of mine i'm going to reload it onto this computer because he was always found of the program.  I'm curious now if I stay consistent will he learn to read?   Always wonder if it was this little exposure that makes him so bright today?

any others out there with a similiar story?
2  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Is anyone using iPad for kids? on: June 15, 2011, 03:14:22 PM
My 19 month old uses the ipad.. he's been using it since he was 15 months old.  He can turn it on via the home button, swipe the bar, and push play on his movies.  He's always been into electronics since 12 months, and this just seemed natural for him to use.  We bought ours with accidental insurance incase of any "accidents' we're covered.  He's delicate with his, and never mistreats it.  I am in love with all Callaway Digital arts  apps.  They make the most amazing "read out loud" storybooks.
1.  Miss Spider's Tea Party
2.  Miss Spider BedTime Story
3.  Grover - The monster at the end of the book
4.  both Thomas the Train apps
5.  Angelina Ballerina

If you also buy DVD's with a digital copy you can download your digital copy into itunes and type in code # in the DVD you can also watch your kids movies in the ipad.

5  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: How to organize teaching schedule during the day? on: February 23, 2011, 03:15:35 AM
I found the doman method very time consuming as well. LR and LM really made things a lot faster and more interesting. Just try to be consistent no matter what ur doing with ur little one.
It's crazy when u break down all the things u are teaching ur child it can be overwhelming trying to fit it all in one day.
I'm a stay at home mom too and really take advantage of you tubes flash like capabilities. I have a Mac computer and make tons of teaching videos that I upload to YouTube to  flash my son throughout the day. It's awesome. I also group tons a videos into specific playlists and flash them 2x a day

Typical you tube categories in my utube
Abc, counting, shapes, colors, animals, weather, seasons, days of the week, states, continents , flags, esl they have great videos with words domain style. Parts of the body,
Every time I find a video I like I save it into one of the above playlists. You can find just about anything ur heart desires for teaching on you tube.

Keeps things, fast, fresh and free smile

6  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: What's Your Long Term Educational Plans for your Early Learner? on: February 21, 2011, 09:21:43 PM
wow mom2bee you were reading my mind.  I just thought about the same question, and then right as i'm about to post there is your question 3 down?
So what are we "early learners" going to do with our children after we worked so hard to get them where they are?  What schools do they attend? are they in private? home school? public?

That is a excellent question that i've been struggling with myself?
We watch the 3 Disc Leap frog DVD's.   We do Brill Kids LM, and LR, and are working on #1 counting 0-20 in JG Math matrix.  I just ordered Preschool prep 7 disc set, which should be here in 2 days (shapes, counting, abc's, sight words, colors,).

Where would my little guy fit in once he accomplishes all of the above since he's only 15 months old ?  Honestly, i've been thinking about homeschooling since i'm a stay at home mom.  I came across "the well trained mind" forum which follows the "classical education" approach.  I've read the "well trained mind" book and became a huge fan after the first few chapters.  Of course, i'll throw in my own "early learning" spin on things just to be creative, and to always make learning fun.

I'm leaning towards this way of schooling, or a private school.  I mentioned possibly homeschooling my boy to a friend and they freaked.. so I keep that to myself now until i'm 100% ready to make my decision.

Kuddos to you for wanting the best for your future children.  I am amazed by how some moms just wait for them to enter into kindergarden to learn everything, and let those valuable first years slip through their hands.

7  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Can i show 15 flash at a time? on: January 24, 2011, 06:30:34 PM
then i say  do what works for your baby.  Mine is 15 months old so he would not just sit still to see the cards flashed.  I found that if he was in his highchair, in my arms, the the stroller about to go out for a walk.. these would be the right moments to flash.  Mine was able to handle large amounts of words flashed in one sitting.
If your baby is younger and less mobil.. i'm sure he'll have no problem sitting still.

and yes LR/LM is costly.. I agree, and what bums me out the most is that I bought the doman cards first then the LR/LM talk about double the costs..

if only i had known about LR first... geeeeeesss
8  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Can i show 15 flash at a time? on: January 21, 2011, 10:39:48 PM
I started doing exactly that.  Show all 5 sets in one showing 3 x a day.  Then i found brillkids little reader and put my doman cards away.  I love the speed of Brillkids.  With doman i found that in order to keep his interest i had to hold him and flash at the same time.. it was just to much on me so many time a day...
now we just cozy up to the computer hit play and done smile
9  BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Mac, Linux, 64-bit Windows users - Please raise your hands! on: December 27, 2010, 12:21:17 AM
MacPro user, but use LR/LM on my husbands windows laptop.  Please make a mac version.
