@shadahfree: I strongly   agree with you, that just having the influence in the background can teach the teach as much as if the child is "paying attention". I'd first read about this in a Malcolm Gladwell book (great reads BTW) when he talks about Sesame Street and just how much research went into the making of Sesame Street in order to make sure kids paid attention. What was so interesting is that the children in their study group learned virtually the same amount whether the children had their eyes fixated on the screen or whether they were playing with toys that were scattered about in the room. Since then, I've made it a point to encourage this kind of learning with my own child, with parents who use my product and with many friends/acquaintances. I also know TeachingMyToddlershttp://forum.brillkids.com/profile/?u=40902 has seen just awesome results with this, in teaching music. It's always exciting for me to see people getting good results. Specially when it's like yours where you've dedicated all this time and effort and you finally start to see it pay off! Congrats!

JainaRei: To your husband (and to many others in this situation) I would say, to not focus on the end goal of having a completely fluent, bilingual child. But to focus on the day to day, speaking German at a 15yo level is certainly enough to set the fundamentals for a young child. I believe in taking it one day at a time, and NOT focusing on perfection. Sometimes, our quest to have everything perfect before we begin something is exactly what leads us to inaction. The key is to get the child started, open their brain up to it. After you've opened that door, it will be natural for more learning to come through.

When creating a Spanish for Kids DVD program we set out to lay the foundation for lifelong learning. We're seeing it spark a whole new love for foreign languages in our young ones. Thank you Krista and TMT for your kind words about our program. As Krista mentioned we have changed the name to Kid Start Spanish to better capture our true goal, which is to enable kids to get a solid start in learning and loving Spanish, as well as foreign languages in general.
 
Coker: My apologies I hadn't noticed your question. Hopefully this will help others who may have similar questions. The program is focused on the basics, the basics being words as the fundamental blocks of learning a new language. Sentence structure is taught the same way kids pickup their native language and that is through natural exposure. After each word is reviewed, several native speaker (with perfect pronunciation) kids as well as native speaker adults will utilize the words in a sentence to teach how it would be used in a sentence. The sentences used match the actions on the screen so that the child can be completely clear on the meaning and usage of the word. Also there are reviews at the end of the videos which show the same words being used in more situations. All of this is done in a fun, low stress environment.
Additionally, words are used in catchy songs with large lyrics printed on the screen to show more examples of the words "in action". (Pro-tip: The Music CD has more songs than are in the videos, really good ones too  ). Although they are a bonus feature, the Iphone/Ipad apps also works hand in hand with the rest of the program to deliver more examples of the words being used in context. Because of its medium the app is also better at being more interactive so the child gets to interact with the words and their meaning. I would love to answer any further questions.
