Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Any tips for regaining your beautiful pre-pregnancy figure?

Hi all, First of all, if you've had a C-section, you can typically exersize 6-8 weeks post delivery (provided your doc gives you a thumbs up). If it's a normal delivery, then 6 weeks should do. Always remember, there is no magical way to reduce the weight/ flabby tummy... it did take 9 months to gain all those kilos, and it WILL take about the same time to go back to your pre-pregnancy state. I had my DS via normal birth and put on 55 pounds, but thanks to the Fit Yummy Mummy program http://fityummymummy.com/ , I lost ALL the weight and more in 12 weeks post delivery, mummy tummy and all! (yes, I started 4 weeks post birth). Being a doctor, and having to go back to work 2 months post delivery, running around in the hospital, I had no choice but to get myself fit. I got pregnant with my DD just as I regained my figure, and again gained roughly 50 pounds. But I did not stick with the program post delivery, and now am pregnant with baby no.3. All this while carrying old baby weight. I'm definitely going back to the program after I deliver this baby, as I've seen the results. It's fabulous. Not only did I lose MORE weight than I had on pre baby, but I was at my fittest yet. It was super simple to run around with my VERY active son... and I loved it. If I may add, the exersizes in the program were NOT simple, it was hard work, but well worth it. I can't wait to start it again after this delivery. (I'm in NO WAY affiliated to this program whatsover, and I got it at full price!)

Hi I tend to agree with Dalis. My eldest is 2 and youngest is 1, not even a year apart. I started the early learning programs with both simultaneously about 3 plus months ago. The eldest has picked up quickly but the youngest is still playful and has not SHOWN me anything except a few word recognitions. But then again, my eldest walked when he was 9 mo and the younger only recently started walking although she's verbalizing ALOT more than the eldest when he was her age.
I personally think that how a child develops is very individual and different. Their mannerisms are different, the way they think, the things they pursue, food they like... most things will be different. As a parent I always try and do the best I can with both, no doubt that I tend to do a little more with the eldest, but that's only because the youngest is asleep more!!! haha.
I believe that a day will come when my younger one will give me some form of output. It maybe be later rather than sooner, but I've got no problems with that. The younger one also learns alot from the eldest... so that's a definite bonus!

Hi Adeena, Grolier is very good for IQ, logic (Logico series and Fun Thinkers) and and vocabulary (Words, words words series). Photographic memory can also be trained with the Smart brain Training DVD's. But as for teaching babies/little kids how to READ, LR is far more advanced in its methodologies. And furthermore, it's customizable/ has it's multisensory sessions which will keep the child engrossed and interested. This is you are comparing LR to Magic English from Grolier. (I am in no way affiliated to Brilllkids and paid the full price for my Lilttle Reader set). I have some Grolier products myself, which is great!!!

I'd be a nervous wreck too, if I were to give my DS the IPad to play with on his own! That's why whatever he plays with, Grolier products or even his screen time is closely monitored by me. But come to think of it, he's been quite good lately, not tearing his books/ banging on the pc screen/throwing the phone or stuff like that. Although I still wouldn't trust him for the next few years! haha - 1-2-3 Magic works!!! Yard sales are a great idea! Although in Malaysia(where I am) we don't have sales like that and mostly we get things second-hand from people we know/ buy new. There's a thread somewhere regarding Apps for Android.

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: NY Times Article: Parents Urged Again to Limit TV for Youngest

I completely agree too, Elle. Screen time in moderation is good (and completely necessary, in our time and day). I only started off Early Education with my LO's when they were 19mo and 8mo, and I'm not ashamed to say that I started off with LR/LM, YBCR, Preschool Prep and EK via Power Point. All using my PC. I also did flashcards with them, and tonnes of play, so it wasn't ALL screen time. And the difference I see in them then and now is tremendous(in a good way), huge boost in vocab/ can read some words/knows colours,shapes/knows numbers etc...
It all depends on WHAT KINDA TV is played for the child, and of course the duration. Too much of the good thing is never good anyway...

Congratulation TMT! I wonder why many more parents WON'T join ius in this fantastic journey of teaching our LO's early and think of it as a "punishment". I'm sure the sense of achievement you feel when your bay show's you that he's learned something (however little) makes your day! It sure makes mine!!! I started LM when my DS was 19mo, (he's going to be 2yo in 3 days) and still have not tested him. although 2 weeks ago he picked up a red dot card which has 14 dots on it and actually said "FOURTEEN". I was actually quite shocked!... I don't want to test him yet, as I'm only at day 44 in LM. We took a short break... Congrats again!
