I am a stay at home mom. I love working with my son and teaching him. We do 2 mommy and me classes a week and visit museums, parks and lots of fun stuff. We try to have weekly playdates but since we are new to the area we only know a few people and don't have any family around other than my husband and I, our son is very clingy and wants to be with us 24/7. Our son is well adjusted but loves being with Mommy & Daddy and had never been separated.
He is excelling with all we have taught him (tons of cards, alphabet, shapes, numbers, beginning reading...etc.). So our biggest concern is separation. He is a November baby and doesn't make the 3 year cut off for preschools so if we were to send him this coming fall 2012, he would be in a 2yr program going for 2.5 hours 3 days a week. The only reason we are even considering this is because we feel he needs to hang with some other kids and learn more of sense of community and work on his social skills. I don't think it will interfere with my teaching him at home since he will only be going for 7.5 hours a week.
My questions are these: What are other people doing for a late birthday baby and handling separation along with teaching at home? How do home schooling parents handle separation? How do preschool programs effect at home teaching?
Thanks!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / VERY Basic books - NEED HELP FINDING THEM!

Thankfully our 27 month old just had a break through with his reading. I tried pretty much everything out there but he finally responded to good old fashioned phonics and is making good progress.
My basic question is this, where can I get those simple books that I used to read at Montessori back in the 1980s? You know, the ones that are a solid color on the outside, white pages on the inside and have black writing and a very simple drawing? The beginning ones had 2 to 4 word sentences. I have looked all over the internet and can't find them. They don't have to be Montessori, any brand will do.
Thanks!

Hi- Anyone have the Tag Junior or Leap Frog products? Do you like it? Is it a good product, educational, etc? We are going to be doing a lot of traveling over the holidays and I am looking for something to help keep our little guy (2 next month) busy in the car and on the plane.
I am also open to other programs; ie. v-tech...
Thanks!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / 22mth old LOVES everything but Reading program!

Hello- My son is 22.5 months and is doing great. We are trying to follow the Doman approach. So far he knows over 150 bits of intelligence cards, has an amazing vocabulary, knows tons of instruments, loves music, sings and know tons of songs, dances and runs around like a typical 22 month old. However, when it comes to the reading cards (any kind, I've tried a few different methods) he is just not interested. I am not giving up and try every few days but he just sits there, looks around the room and eventually will get up and go play with something.
Any advice? Anyone else run into the same problem? I am open to other program suggestions. Thanks!

Can't wait to hear ideas from everyone on the Doman method. So excited that there are other people out there who have heard of him! I have started the reading and encyclopedic knowledge programs through reading his books. I am going to try and attend the week long class at the institute this fall. Has anyone on here been? Fortunately, my child is not brain injured, I have just heard amazing things about the course and decided to do it.
