EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Languages that have masculine and feminine versions of words?

Hi... spanish also has masculine and feminine version of words... Masculine words usually end in "o" Feminine words usually end in "a"
In french: Masculine words usually end in a consonant Feminie words usually and an "e" to the last consonant Please note I said "usually" because not all words have a distinctive ending.
Example: SMALL (Spanish) Masculine: Pequeño Feminine: Pequeña
(French) Masculine: Petit Feminine: Petite Now... pronuntiation can be a bit different... if a word ends in consonant you DON'T pronounce that consonant unless it's a "l", there maybe another exceptions which I don't remember right now. If it's the feminine word ending in e, then you do pronounce up to the consonant. Petit: You pronounce "pe-ti" Petite: You pronounce "pe-tit"

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Which second language and why?

We are teaching our daughter Spanish as the first language since both my husband and I are "native" speakers. Second language is obviously english.
I'd love to teach her mandarin chinese. Why? It can give your kid a huge advantage, specially if they learn it at a young age. If they do, they can enroll in formal classes and learn how to read and write. This is a real big challenge for adults who need to learn it.
In a near future, after having a head start with those three languages, I'd love her to learn french. I lived in Montreal when I went to college so I know quite a bit.

Parents' Lounge / Coffee Corner - General Chat / Re: Are you in favour of the epidural?

Hi ladies... I'm a new mommy in this forum.
I'm in favour of the epidural a 100%. In most cases the benefits outweight the side effects. In my case it was completely impossible to go without it. The pain was unbearble!
Just keep your options open, don't say no... you might need one. Besides, whats the point on suffering through childbirth. Child birth is not something you "enjoy" but you can make the situation much better. My baby was born in perfect condition, no side effects... I had no problems and really... I loved having an epidural.
Next time I have a baby, I hope they can give me an epidural at the parking lot. I don't wanna go as far as I went without it. It was just too horribly painful

Hi everybody. My name is Cristina. I have a 19-month old baby girl named Tatiana.
I'm pretty interested on teaching my baby how to read. In fact, a few weeks ago I prepared a binder for her with images and their names in both english and spanish. I've been showing the binder to her for a while and suddenly she started picking up some words (I don't know if she just recognizes the image or what...) but she started pointing and saying "anana" for banana and "leus" for lettuce.
I'm pretty glad to meet you all. If there are any blilingual moms I'd appreciate their advice on how to teach babies two or more languages at the same time. I'd love her to learn mandarin chinese too!
Love,
Cristina
