Hi Artfiend! My daughter will be 5 by the end of the year. I used flashcards doman method when she was 2.5 and a couple of months later I started with LR. So I used both doman flashcards (homemade) and LR. I later stopped Doman as it takes a lot of time. I introduced sight words using doman and I also paste them around the house and also write stories using those words. I also read to her a lot of books( like the see sam books) with the sight words repeated a couple of times. Yes repetition is key so you have to repeat the words over and over again. I cannot really answer your question as I have not used Preschool prep. However, I noticed that around 3 she would recognize a lot of the sight words even though she didn't want to read them. I even thought she could not read. I tried not to focus on output rather on input. Children all learn at different pace and as long as you are teaching they are learning. Maybe they know a lot more than you think they do. So just be patient and keep introducing new stuff and repeating them too. The time you spend together is more important.
So I have finally introduced chapters books to my 4 year old. Before doing that, I used to get her early reading books and I would read them once and by the second time she is already reading them herself. I wanted to get her something more challenging so I bought 3 chapter books( the littles, Charlotte's web and pippi longstockings). We started with the Littles. I would read with my fingers on the words while my daughter looked at the words then I noticed that she was more interested in looking at my face when I'm reading. She keeps doing this every time I am reading with her. I know she is so interested in the story as she keeps bringing the book every time she sees me sitting down and when alone she flips the pages and reads some words. I am somehow confused if it's a bad thing or something good . We have moved on to the second book and she still does the same thing. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi, I live in Saudi Arabia and I would like to get the Little Reader Deluxe Kit.If any one knows of a local distributor in the Middle East that I can get it from please contact me asap. My e-mail address is [email protected]. Thanks.
Hi. I stumbled yesterday on the leap frog's leappad which is a child friendly tablet.I am interested in it because it claims that it has some maths and reading content too. I am reaaaaaally tempted to get one. However, I don't know if it will have any benefit. I read a lot of reviews about it but most of the reviews focuses of games and playing with the device. I do not want to buy a device for playing games only. I want it to be educational too. I think it will be good for my child to have someone and something else other than physical books to read stories and also play a game once in a while. I am not sure if it will be a good buy so I was hoping some parents here might have used one or any other child friendly educational tablet and will tell me what they think of them. I value the opinions of brillkids parents that why I always come back here for answers. Thank you.
I am sooooo soooo happy right now. My daughter can write. Today I gave her a chalk for her to scribble around her board while I do some chores. I came back to find her writing some alphabets. She wrote letters A, L, E, F, H, I, and C clearly. She also wrote M and W but they don't look like the usual M and W. I am so happy as I never really taught her how to write. I just gave her pencils, crayons, markers and a paper and just let her scribble.
Hi. I am almost approaching the end of semester 2 of LR and I dont know what to do next. I mean where do we continue. She is not reading fluently as the kids on the videos. Thanks.
I wanted to teach my child spanish and french but since I dont speak either I felt it will be a waste of time. Do you have any suggestions as how to start? Thanks.
I kept having those thoughts too. That was why I had to go back to school. I believe my daughter( or children in general) always look up to their parents. Setting high expectations for them and you as a parent failing to reach your goals will not be a good example. I want my child to say I want to be like my mother. However finding a balance between being a good parent and achieving your dreams is very hard but I want my child to know that it is possible.
