We had a Snugli chest carrier for hiking with our little one then moved up to a backpack carrier by Sherpani, now at 5 years old he does hiking by himself and loves camping. We took him on a camping tour of Vancouver Island at about 2 months. Tofino, Miracle beach were both nice spots. We found it was well worth the money to buy a good stroller. I would say the key would be good fairly substantial diameter wheels. Small wheels will not go over trails very well at all. I agree lots of toys aren't necessary. Don't try to do to much,try to pick spots without to much car time between them. Try to pick the best weather report too you don't want to be playing Survivor with a little one along. A bit of patience and you all will be enjoying beautiful B.C.
