Saludos a todas

Saludos
5  BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Redeem loyalty points on: August 21, 2014, 06:43:56 AM
Yo tengo muchos. Ya hablaremos!!
Saludos

7  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child to Read / Re: Do girls learn faster than boys? on: May 20, 2014, 09:51:45 AM
I can tell you about my personal experience of having fraternal twins, boy and girl. In our particular case, the answer is that, in general terms, yes. My daughter learns much faster than my son. The only clear exception is walking. He began at 8 months old and she did it at 12-13. In relation to reading, we used Little Reader and other resources from month 15 more or less. She learnt to read independently and phonetically in Spanish by 23 months old. She also began at that age reading in English, but mostly sightwords. Now they have 2 years 8 months and my son is still not reading anything. But I hang on there. With general knowledge there is almost no difference between them, in Math she is ahead but the difference is not that large as in reading. In music she was ahead at first, but now they are at a similar level. In writing and drawing, she is also ahead.
Hope this helps, but this is only our particular case. In this forum we have read about a lot of very young boys reading, doing math or playing the piano very early.

Thanks for your answer, we'll give it a try! We have been using educational apps for more than half a year now, no problem with attention spam or drag & drop!    big grin
9  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Other Topics / Re: Ask a Programmer- Guest post with Kodable kids app creator Jon Mattingly on: March 25, 2014, 02:17:01 PM
Very interesting thread!
Maybe you have already commented on this, sorry if I missed that, but I would like to know at what age should a kid start with the app to really take profit from it. Please take into account that most of us have exposed our children to reading and math from a very early age, and they're doing simple math at 24 months old, for example.
My twins are 2,5 years old now. When would you recommend to start? What are the necessary skills?
Thank you!!!
10  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Soooooo.... I had my eldest tested on: February 10, 2014, 09:56:07 AM
Interesting. I had never thought about stubbornness as a consequence of EL. I had always thought of it as a personality issue and, you know, being a boy. My two girls, one not EL and one EL (twin sister of my son) are very kind and very easy to manage. Even though my little girl is in her two’s, she’s not showing anything like the terrible twos and seems very well balanced. In fact she seems to be much older than she is (at least if I compare her with how her sister was at that age and how my son is now) and, at least apparently, has benefitted much more from EL than my boy (she began to read books by herself at 23 months, while he’s not reading at all). But the boy, OMG, he is in constant motion, infinitely stubborn and is very, very intense.
So, I’ll follow this thread and your experiences with a lot of interest.
11  EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Questions about LR French Curriculum on: December 09, 2013, 11:40:39 PM
I don't have the French Curriculum, but in the English one the stories are located in Semester 2 Categories, you can reproduce them directly. There are also some Miscellaneous Categories with the alphabet, everyday phrases, etc.
Hope this helps!
12  BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Sign up for our LR Spanish Beta Testing Program (LIMITED SLOTS ONLY!) on: December 09, 2013, 08:33:37 AM
And another question is, what is exactly "latin"?  I have family and friends from Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, and, I'm sure you will agree, they all speak differently!!! Different words and different accents.
I have used a lot of Spanish resources (in latin Spanish) from the BK library, and I just corrected and recorded the words that are not used here in Spain. LR is completely customisable  yes
13  BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: Sign up for our LR Spanish Beta Testing Program (LIMITED SLOTS ONLY!) on: December 08, 2013, 04:25:13 PM
I can understand the disappointment, but I wouldn't skip this opportunity only due to the difference in accents. I'm one of the lucky ones beta testing the Spanish version and I have to say that it is absolutely wonderful! It is very well translated and the voices are really professional and nice to hear. My twins have been working with the English (British) version, and with my own Spanish translations (without voice), and they really really like it!!! It takes their attention much more than the English version. It will save me a lot of time with my boy, who is not reading Spanish yet.
BTW, I expose them equally to British and American English.
Anyway, maybe the BK people will do the Latin version as well, once the curriculum is done, "only" the recordings have to be changed.
14  EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Not working this time - 2 years of EL and very few signs of progress :(. on: October 08, 2013, 02:06:25 PM
I teach both my twins (25 months old now) and I’m getting completely different results. The girl is already reading and flying through everything I show them. The boy was reading sightwords when we started a year ago, but suddenly he stopped and has not read anything for months. The only thing he tells me happily is the alphabet and solfège in Little Musician. If I ask him “how many coins are there?” he will always say “six!”, what colour is that? “blue!” (always). One would say he’s not learning anything. When we start lessons he flies away, or stays but in constant motion, never looking at the screen, almost never looking at books, always in motion! However I know he memorises books (sometimes he finishes my sentences when reading) and he focuses more on iPad games, so we count and count and count again on the iPad, look at some sightwords and books… things like that. I want to believe he is learning something, or at least making connections… Sometimes I also get discouraged, but I go on. I think that seeing the success with my little girl helps me to think we are on the right way. It’s only that my ds will blossom later…

Don’t give up and keep us informed!!!
15  BEYOND EARLY LEARNING (for older years) / General Discussions - After Early Learning / Re: Whiz Kid, 11, Navigates College Life on: October 08, 2013, 10:07:32 AM
I can't help being somewhat horrified by this. The media attention on the kid (who emotionally must be just a kid), parents worried and "advised" not to share anything on their educational methods.... I think of my own children and all the children in this forum, who read early, do math early, play violin or piano amazingly, but outside that they are normal (and tiny, and sensitive, and immature) children... Would we ever consider allowing such a circus around our children? Or making money from it?  I guess most of us would not. This is not the point of EL or acceleration. But this is just my humble and personal opinion, maybe I don't know the full story.
