BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Need additional word slide for creating a 'new word' in categories
|
on: November 28, 2017, 12:32:42 AM
|
Good Evening,
I am back to using LR after a long break from it, due to some of the features that I like, such as creating categories and playlists. But I need an additional 'word slide/s’ in the 'create new word' section of categories, as I do not have images or videos; rather I want to type in Arabic as one 'word slide' and then type in English as another 'word slide', and also another ‘word slide’ for grammar notes.
We can add multiple files for images or sound clips or videos, but not for words? I want to use it like a flashcard program, especially for words that are more abstract and not concrete/images, etc. But in flashcard programs, the playback is always random, and I need to be able to control when and how the words are input and played back, and/or use my own schedule via playlists, etc.
How can I do that, please?
Thank you!

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Re: Backup to uninstall LR and reinstall on different PC/laptop?

Hi there! Hmm - I just copied the entire Brillkids folders from both: Program (x86) and ProgramData.
Now do I just un-insall BK on the old/dying laptop, so I can install it and unlock it on the new one? And it is also installed on another laptop we have. My understanding is I can only have the software on 2 laptops/computer at a time - so I want to uninstall it on the old/dying one before proceeding. Is that correct?
EDIT (10/25/15 PM) > I followed the directions and do not see my lessons that I created? Do they appear after unlocking LR?

Hi there!
Thank you. I am uninstalling on a very old laptop - and LR will not even open to follow the directions you mentioned. Should I just do a manual backup (copy file folders and paste into a safe drive) for both the program files and program data for BrillKids? Or . . . ? I already have BK-LR on two laptops, and cannot install on a 3rd, hence, I wanted to back it up on the oldest laptop and un-install, so I can install on a newer laptop.

Local Support Groups / العربية / Communciating in Arabic at Home?

as salaamu 'alaikum! As I am learning Arabic, I am frustrated! because there are no materials for parents learning a language to teach to their child! Nor are there any phrasebooks or common dialogues that mothers/parents use with their children at home. I discovered this book: Family Language Learning Learn Another Language, Raise Bilingual Children Author: Christine Jernigan http://www.multilingual-matters.com/display.asp?K=9781783092802and need some help, please!, for translating common exchanges in English to Arabic. I also began creating a 'phrasebook' as a way to get started: http://www.phraseum.com/user/2205 and decided to switch to google docs spreadsheet in order to have MSA and different dialects, etc. As I make phrase cards, soundclips can be embedded and/or use http://www.chirbit.com/. We can then make categories and playlists, and .ppts based on these 'conversations'. I also created a facebook page, if any native Arabic speakers want and are able to help me, please?: https://www.facebook.com/SpeakArabicAtHomeThank you! as salaamu 'alaikum. Ayesha

BrillKids Software / HOW TOs and FAQs / Re: FAQ: The Easy Voice Recorder
|
on: February 17, 2015, 02:02:01 AM

Dear BK Tech Team,
Is there a way to record the speakers and myself? I am using this software for improving my foreign language pronunciation. I want the recorder to record the sound from an interactive website of native pronunciation, and myself, to compare them.
How would I do that, please?
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Ayesha

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Missing category files
|
on: October 16, 2014, 02:43:29 PM
|
Good Morning Tech Support. It is Ayesha. I am hoping you can/will be able to help me resolve an issue that is very upsetting. As I mentioned in the following thread, I was working on an Arabic course assignment and created categories of verb roots with conjugations to make 14 sentences for both past and present tense, along with images (28 sentences for each verb root). http://forum.brillkids.com/little-reader/we're-looking-for-content-checkers-and-testers-for-our-arabic-curriculum!/msg105204/#msg105204 I worked on it last night and 'saved' the last sentence. Did some work online. Went to sleep. My husband closed the lid/screen down to the laptop. When I woke up, I lifted/opened the screen, and the computer did an update. It completed it, and then I rebooted the laptop. After it rebooted normally, I logged onto Skype and began speaking with my teacher, while I also opened BK LR to present it to my Arabic professor and was confused/shocked/in disbelief that the 8 - 10 categories with all of the content was missing (112 to 180 sentences)?!?!? I am beyond words at this moment and need help locating where they disappeared to - I spent a lot of time, energy/effort on this project and he gave me an extension until next week. I just want to locate the files and make some minor adjustments to them - and I really hope I do not have to recreate these due to the time involved. I also noticed that the Arabic beta curriculuum is no longer activated (missing key) on my computer and wonder if the two issues are related? I can see the mock/practice playlists I created for my Arabic course presentation, but not the categories?!?!?! I am really upset and hope you can recover these files as soon as possible, as I am on a deadline, and need to also study for a final exam. After explaining to my husband what happened, he suggested to 'undo/remove the latest update' or 'revert back to a restore point' which sounds logical, but I will wait until I receive directions from your team. Please advise. Thank you. Ayesha

BrillKids Software / Tech Support / Specifying color of individual words in a category or playlist?
|
on: September 28, 2014, 10:35:54 PM
|
Good Evening,
I am working on creating categories and playlists for my Arabic language course to better learn the verb conjugations for 14 pronouns. And I need to be able to specify the color of individual words in a category and/or playlist. I want to use blue for masculine, pink for feminine, and purple for dual conjugations - but I am only aware of specifying the color for an entire category or playlist, and not individual words within either one.
How can I do that? And also, how can I specify the word color of one word within a sentence? Sentence with black font color, and one word in a specified color?
Thanks!

Local Support Groups / العربية / Need advice/help for a project

as salaamu 'alaikum, With regard to a project I have to create for my Arabic course, I need images to show actions of verbs that I will conjugate for present and past tenses (active voice) with 14 pronouns as seen in the last two right-hand columns below: http://www.archive.org/download/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs2/pronouns.pdfto study: http://ia700804.us.archive.org/5/items/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs/0010_darasa.pdfto write: http://ia700808.us.archive.org/4/items/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs2/0032_kataba.pdfand I will also conjugate the following verb roots: to read, to listen, to speak, and to understand. Any suggestions for how to do that? I think I will just use the same sentence for each conjugation of a verb root, as seen on page 12 of this pdf: Page 12 - Grammar 1 pdf (image attached) or can be seen at this link: http://readandunderstandthequran.com/images/files/grammar-1.pdfAnd I will try to use images from BK-LR; or where can I find images? Also, how can I change the font color for specific category words I am using? I want to use pink for feminine, blue for masculine, and purple for dual conjugations - maybe by creating these category sets?: Present Tense - Verb - Masculine conjugations (blue) Present Tense - Verb - Feminine conjugations (pink) Present Tense - Verb - Dual conjugations (purple) Past Tense - Verb - Masculine conjugations (blue) Past Tense - Verb - Feminine conjugations (pink) Past Tense - Verb - Dual conjugations (purple) and then I can mix them up in playlist sets: * individual in order * pairs: I/we, he/she, they (singular), etc. * triple: he, they (dual), their; she, they (dual), their, I/we, etc. * begin mixing between present/past What do you think? as salaamu 'alaikum. ~ Ayesha

BrillKids Software / Little Reader - General Discussion / Re: We're looking for Content Checkers and Testers for our Arabic Curriculum!

Good Afternoon, What appear to be spelling errors, with regard to tashkeel, are actually display errors due to the Arabic font that is being used. I would suggest using the one from here: King Fahed Qur'an Printing Complex - Nashk font (used for printed materials): http://fonts.qurancomplex.gov.sa/?page_id=608or choosing one of the two common Arabic script fonts in the Microsoft suite > Arabic Typesetting or Traditional Arabic. Also, when I attempt to change the settings (using bulk change) for each days course to a different font and timing of slides, it saves, but does not apply it and I have to manually adjust it for each 'set' for each day. Is there an easier way, please? Additionally, with the split word sets, the 2nd syllable is cut off in pronunciation during the first pronunciation/slide and I am unsure how to slow it down? And with regard to another project I have to create for my Arabic course, I need images to show actions of verbs that I will conjugate for present and past tenses (active voice) with 14 pronouns as seen in the last two right-hand columns below: http://www.archive.org/download/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs2/pronouns.pdfhttp://ia700804.us.archive.org/5/items/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs/0010_darasa.pdfhttp://ia700808.us.archive.org/4/items/ArabicVerbsMadeEasyPdfs2/0032_kataba.pdfAny suggestions for how do do that? May I use images from BK-LR? Or where can I find images? Thanks!
