EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / Re: question about Doman math dots sessions

Thank you, Trinity Papa! Really helpful and down to the point, appreciate it. I would re-do the files according to this.
So according to the same schedule I mentioned in my original post, it says, that on the day 17 we start equasions. Is that correct? And if so what are the rules about equasions, is it also a few times a day the same ones in addition to introducing the numbers? IN the above mentioned schedule, there are 10 additions for instance on the day 17, would I also do them 5, wait 15 minutes and another 5? Would I also do numbers in the same session?
Thank you!

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child - Signing, Speaking, Languages / Re: Which second language and why?

I speak Ukrainian and Russian, my husband Cantonese and Portugese, we speak English to each other, and the rest of our family speaks Mandarin as their second language. So we are trying to figure out how to prioritise the languages, right now we speak English and Russian, and hoping to get LR materials in Chinese with the upgrade. And we still not sure where Ukrainian and Portugese come in But definetly the first three, we are working on those. I found that having other materials (like songs, videos, powerpoints) in secondary learning languages is really great. For instance, as much as I would like my daughter to learn Russian, with English being spoken around the house, she still gets much more English, but having songs in Russian playing at some times during the day, or having an educationa or musicl video in Russian, really helps. She is still too young to see the results through

EARLY LEARNING / Teaching Your Child Math / question about Doman math dots sessions
|
on: May 10, 2009, 08:28:21 AM

I am new to Doman math and do not have the books, but I read through the threads and got some great information, thank you everyone! I also downloaded Anji's presets and schedule ( http://forum.brillkids.com/teaching-your-child-math/my-doman-math-schedule/), which is great! But I have a question to you, who have experience with the method and read the books. In one of the posts, giving an outline of Doman's method, it was mentioned that there should be 6 sessions, 5 numbers each ( when you introduce the quantities), in this schedule is 10 numbers per session, should I divide each session in two and show the sets separately ( how far apart ( 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 30 minutes) should that be?), should I just show set of 10 cards 3 times a day, or set of 10 cards 6 times a day? And another question, in the pre-sets numbers come randomly, do I show them randomly or do I show the numbers in order at some point and then later show the same numbers randomly? Thank you so much, in advance!

EARLY LEARNING / Early Learning - General Discussions / Re: Library idea...
|

I do not know, may be it is a bad idea, but I had another suggestion along the same lines. We can have a place where we can exchange good books, or parts of the books relevant to early learning and parenting. For instance a few chapters of some book that you have read and feel it can be a benefit for others, it is possible to scan it and post it in the "library corner". Of course there are copyrights issues, but I am talking about something like private library - libraries do that, -- having books to read; people do that on paper, sharing chapters or parts of the books with each other, I think it is OK to do it on line as a private exchange initiative.
I was mainly thinking about that because of some people being in the countries where they have very little or none access to these books. My friend in Burma, for example, loved this site, but all the books that being mentioned here are literally inaccessible for her. (So she loved the ones that were on line! But had no idea where or how to get to read some Doman materials, I do not have it either so I was not able to help, but I referred her to some posts, that had summaries, which is great too).
But if some relevant parts, or chapters of interest, are shared in BrillKids library, she or others, being a member can access it for her learning and will be able to have the same opportunities like someone in the US...
I do not know if it is possible, but thought to share an idea...

Excellent book with fun activities! We do a lot of them already, but having a collection to choose from, gives you more ideas to keep it fun. Thank you for sharing the link! Our little girl is very active and loves new things, so it is good to have a resource for ideas. We also starter LM and LR with her already. Also, when I do things around the house, I am baby-- wearing, so she is with me doing different choirs and I explain her what I do, talk about things, colors, etc, she loves it. Another thing that she is fascinated about, is watching daddy play guitar. We played and sang a lot to her when she was still in the tummy, and ever since she was born, she was not just fascinated by music, but wanted to watch where and how it comes from. When my husband plays guitar for her, she would watch intently, following his fingers, and would not get distracted with anything else, till the end of the musical piece. Funny thing, - she usually following my husbands fingers super intently as he plays, but when he would get a wrong note once in a while, she would look up at him in surprise. First we though it was a coincidence, but we did it purposely and she reacted the same. She loves this activity of not just listening to music, but watching it. I also finding some good ideas in the book of Natural parenting, that someone here on the forum mentioned just recently. But it is also fun to hear what others of you do with your babies!

All babies are different, but it will be interesting to know about milestones your baby passed and at what age.
Like picking up/holding the toy for the first time, smiling for the first time, saying the first word, crawling, rolling over. Will be interesting to hear about things babies did in their first, second, third, fourth, fifth and six month.
My baby is 3 months, she just picked up and held the toy on her own for the first time and started to discover her hands. She was not much interested in toys, up till now, mainly interested in pictures (can look at different photographs for a long time, since she was 1 month old), and started to get fascinated by infant stimulation cards and math dots at 2 month

Parents' Lounge / General Parenting / Re: Eleminiation Communication - Anyone?

Our baby used potty from 2 weeks old. She communicated very clearly from the very beginning that she did not want to have her diapers dirty, and waited for us to change her before she would do her pees and poos. From the very first time we put her on the potty, she loved it, and used it for every pee and poo since then. She has an accident may be once every couple of days, usually when we are in the car and it takes us a while to get off the road to put her on the potty. Otherwise she is very clear in her communications and loves the fact that she is understood. Overall, I think it makes her feel like she wants and can communicate with us and therefore encourages her learning in other areas... Will see how she will do once she will hit the walking and crolling stage. But for now she is doing great.
