Hi i am still breastfeeding my almost 13 month old. I will continue to feed her until we both feel ready, not when people think it is right. I am trying for another baby so if I cant get pregnant while breastfeeding then I will wean her around 2years.

I understand only too well how much you need to get out of the house being a stay at home mum.
Unfortunately at the moment my daughter sleeps at the same time that my playgroup is held so we arent going at the moment, but have been informed her sleeping habits might change soon.
I took my daughter to baby playgroups where all the babies lay on a mat and can see other babies around them, it was amazing the socializing that actually went on. The babies made eye contact with each other and reached hands out to touch the other babies.

I show my daughter little reader while she is eating her meals. She barely pays attention to the food just opens her mouth while i put it in

Is this bad to show them the words while they are eating, even if they are completely focussed on the program?

Would be interested in peoples opinions...

Hi I was just interested to know how many people take their babies to playgroups and what they hope to get out of it?

I have been taking my daughter to playgroups since she was born. It was a nice way for her to interact with other babies as i have no close friends or family with babies.

Great post. I have never doubted that babies may be smarter than they look.

Anyone seen baby geniuses (the dvd)? 

I would but I dont have enough points yet either My husband will only let me buy little reader with a 60% discount.

I keep going to buy it thinking i can afford it but when the price gets converted from US$ to AUS$ it is too expensive

I will have to keep posting and hope i can get enough...will be sad if i miss out.

Hi, I know how you feel. It can be a little overwhelming when you first start.

I would recommend that you go to your country's board and introduce yourself there. That way you can talk to people from your area.


The only other thing I can say is just look through any posts that are relevant to you and if you cant find one then make a new one

Thank you for your tips on how you got your baby to sleep. I know that I have been doing a lot of things wrong...eg.

- letting her fall asleep on my breast
- not having a regular schedule
- not having quiet time before sleep

and more...

But I have been doing what I needed to to keep sane, I can't listen to her cry for too long or I will get upset too.

I don't even understand some of those nursery rhymes, and some of them are not about nice things at all like Ring Around the Rosey.

Same as 'rock a bye baby' i used to sing it to my daughter out of habit to put her to sleep but i would change the ending - and down will come baby cradle and all...didnt like singing about babies falling out of trees.

That is a good question, when I first started I was very consistent...doing everything at the same time of the day, then my daughter stopped sleeping through the night, I got very tired and started slacking off. I have a very hard time getting motivated

Any tips anyone has for staying on track would be great.

I have been doing a combination of flash cards and little reader.

Also, each week I go to the library and let my daughter pick out a book to borrow for the week. We will read that book over and over (her choice, not mine ), then return it at the end of the week and get a new one.

She also has her own books which we read over and over...she loves reading her books and when she is awake that is all she really wants to do.

I will just sit down to rest for a second and she will toddle up with a book in her hand...pushing it at me saying mummummum.... very cute so I cant refuse...

Its true, what is wrong with showing your child words and pictures on a flash card, when it is socially acceptable to read a book with the same words and pictures...
